The complete list of nominations for the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards has been unveiled, as the prestigious awards ceremony gears up to honor outstanding performances and commend the best movies of the past year.
With a remarkable number of nominations, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has emerged as a frontrunner for multiple wins this year.
Following closely behind are Poor Things and Killers of the Flower Moon, also garnering significant nominations.
Scheduled to take place on February 18 at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London, the BAFTA Film Awards will be exclusively broadcasted in the UK on BBC One and BBC Player.
Furthermore, the event will be available to viewers across Britbox International in the US, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, South Africa, and Australia, with additional international broadcasters yet to be confirmed.
While numerous films by American directors made it onto the nomination list, the Netflix series featuring Meghan and Harry did not receive a ticket to the awards.
Consequently, it appears that Charles will not be able to attend the BAFTA ceremony, which is not surprising given that the President of BAFTA is Prince William.
Rumors have circulated that Prince Harry has requested William’s permission to attend and preside over the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards, particularly as Prince Charles focuses on royal duties during Catherine and his own health concerns.
Sources suggest that this idea was initiated by Meghan Markle herself, who hopes to seize the opportunity to engage with A-list celebrities on the red carpet.
Had Princess Catherine not been unwell, she would have undoubtedly accompanied William to the awards ceremony.
According to the Daily Mail, Prince William is expected to miss the BAFTAs, among other engagements, as he stands by his wife’s side during her recovery from abdominal surgery.
The Princess of Wales is currently receiving treatment in the hospital following a successful operation.
Kensington Palace announced on Wednesday that Prince William will remain with his wife and children throughout this period, refraining from official duties.
Consequently, he has postponed several engagements, including the BAFTAs on February 18, as well as the upcoming Six Nations Championship and various charity events.
As the patron of the Welsh rugby team, William is likely to miss any Six Nations games next month.
The championship will commence on February 2nd with a match between France and Ireland at the Orange Velodrome in Marseille.
Additionally, that weekend will feature England versus Italy in Rome and Wales versus Scotland in Cardiff, events that the Prince and Princess of Wales are not expected to attend.
Furthermore, William was initially scheduled to conduct investitures in January and February, which he will now be unable to fulfill.
It is anticipated that Prince Hassan will step in to take his place.
Last year, Prince William made an appearance at the BAFTAs.
He has served as the President of the Academy since February 2010, but it seems likely that he will not be able to attend this year’s ceremony.
