A recent poll conducted by Techne for the Express has revealed that a majority of Brits believe King Charles made the right decision in not meeting his son, Prince Harry, during his surprise visit to the UK.
The survey, which involved 1,624 British adults from March 29th to 30th, showed that 53% of respondents supported Charles, while 31% believed he should have met with his son.
The remaining 16% were unsure.
Prince Harry, who currently resides in California with his wife Meghan Markle, traveled to the UK this week for a High Court hearing in London regarding his legal dispute with Daily Mail publisher Associated Newspaper over allegations of unlawful information gathering.
However, Buckingham Palace announced that the King was not in Windsor or London and was scheduled to depart for a state visit to Germany on Wednesday morning.
According to a source from Harper’s Bazaar, Harry was informed that Charles would be too busy to meet with him.
U.S.-based royal commentator Kinsey Schofield stated that the King’s decision not to make time for his youngest son is a clear indication of the consequences of their strained relationship.
Schofield further commented that Charles’s diary is usually planned months in advance, so the fact that he chose not to engage with Harry suggests a lack of trust.
She added that Charles seemingly views Harry’s grievances as insignificant, and if Harry and Meghan attend the King’s coronation, they should be prepared for a chilly reception.
Additionally, it was not expected for Harry to meet his older brother, Prince William, as he was not in Windsor due to his children’s school Easter holidays.
Since stepping back from their royal duties in March 2020, the Sussexes have experienced ongoing tensions with the royal family.
In his recent autobiography, “Spare,” Harry revealed his troubled relationships with both Charles and William.
There is now speculation about whether Harry and Meghan will attend the King’s coronation, scheduled for May 6th at Westminster Abbey, coinciding with their son Archie’s fourth birthday.
The couple has yet to confirm their attendance.
The ongoing legal battles between Prince Harry and the British press are also raising questions about the impact on his relationships with the royal family.
