Amidst the anticipation surrounding the coronation of King Charles, an expert has revealed that Prince William may play a significant role during the historic event.
Dr. George Gross, a visiting research fellow in theology at King’s College, London, suggests that due to his central position within the royal family, organizers may decide to create a specific role for the Prince of Wales.
Traditionally, the Prince of Wales does not have a defined role in the coronation service.
However, Dr.
Gross believes that Prince William will be more prominent than other working members of the royal family during the ceremony.
Although there is no formal written role for the Prince of Wales, his position and influence within the firm make it likely for him to have a prominent place in the procession and a designated seating arrangement.
While Prince William’s role is expected to be more defined, his wife, Kate, the Princess of Wales, is predicted to observe the coronation from the same location at Westminster Abbey where previous royal wives, including the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret, and young Prince Charles, sat during the 1953 coronation.
Historically, royal wives have occupied the royal box, and it is expected that this tradition will continue.
Dr.
Gross’s insights align with those of constitutional commentator and author Catherine Pepinster, who previously suggested that Prince William may have a significant role in the organization of the coronation.
Pepinster believes that Prince William may assume a similar role to that of the Duke of Edinburgh during the 1953 coronation, exerting influence in the League Committee.
She also anticipates that Prince William will strive to infuse modernity into the traditional event.
The Duke of Norfolk, a key figure historically involved in coronation plans, has led preparations for centuries.
However, on May 6th, King Charles will be crowned at Westminster Abbey by the Archbishop of Canterbury, with Queen Camilla by his side wearing Queen Mary’s crown adorned with the Koh-i-Noor diamond.
Buckingham Palace is currently collaborating with No.
10 and the Foreign Office to finalize the guest list, which will include the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The 2000 Strong Guest List has a limited timeframe to respond to officials organizing the coronation.
Dr.
Gross, along with Dr. David Crankshaw, a lecturer in the History of Early Modern Christianity at King’s College, is spearheading the British Coronation Project C1973-Present.
This research initiative aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of British coronations throughout history, shedding light on their significance and impact on the past and present.
As the excitement builds for King Charles’ coronation, speculation continues regarding the role Prince William will play in the momentous occasion.
