Prince William is taking steps to familiarize himself with the responsibilities that come with his new position.
On Monday, he engaged in discussions with Alastair Martin, the Secretary of the Estate at Kensington Palace, who holds a senior role in the Duchy of Cornwall.
This vast and valuable estate was inherited by the new Prince of Wales from his father, King Charles.
Since September 8th, when Queen Elizabeth passed away, William has been titled the Duke of Cornwall, granting him control over the Duchy, which includes farmland, property, and commercial business valued at approximately $1.3 billion.
Last year, the Duchy provided Charles with an income of around $25 million.
In addition to his new title, William and his wife, Kate Middleton, were also named the Prince and Princess of Wales by his father.
To demonstrate their commitment to the nation, the couple recently embarked on their first official visit to Swansea and Anglesey.
Now, it is reported that William, as the heir to the throne, intends to support Welsh language projects.
He is expected to invite S4C, a Welsh-language television channel, to join other broadcasters during his royal engagements in Wales.
Furthermore, William has expressed a desire to learn and speak more of the Welsh language.
A source close to the couple stated, “…language is something we’re working through.
We know it is important.”
William has already been heard speaking in Welsh during various meetings.
While in London, he greeted a group of people from Wales in Welsh, and during a visit to Swansea, he sought advice on learning the national language.
Reverend Stephen Bunting, who interacted with the Prince and Princess during their visit to St. Thomas’ Church, mentioned that William shared some Welsh phrases he was trying to learn, such as “pan” (cup of tea) and “bara berth” (traditional Welsh tea bread).
After the death of Queen Elizabeth, William expressed his deep affection for Wales during a conversation with Welsh First Minister Mark Darkford.
Kensington Palace issued a statement acknowledging the Prince’s connection to Wales, stating that it was the first family home for him and his family, including Prince George in his earliest months.
The Prince and Princess of Wales are committed to strengthening their relationship with communities across Wales, supporting the aspirations of the Welsh people, and shedding light on both the challenges and opportunities they face.
Insiders reveal that the couple will approach their roles with modesty and humility, just as they have done in their previous work.
It remains to be seen if Prince William is prepared to ascend to the throne as the next King.
