The once inseparable friendship between Jessica Mulroney and Meghan Markle seems to have taken a turn for the worse.
The Canadian fashion stylist and former Suits actress were known to be close, with Jessica even assisting Meghan in selecting her wedding gown.
They traveled together, stayed at each other’s homes, and Jessica’s children played important roles in Meghan’s wedding to Prince Harry.
However, their friendship began to show cracks when Jessica became embroiled in a race row, and Meghan’s name was dragged into the controversy.
The latest indication of their strained relationship came when Jessica snubbed Meghan in an Instagram post honoring her friend Sydney Martin.
Alongside a photo of a friend wearing a wedding dress, Jessica wrote, “Guess it ain’t Meghan.”
This subtle dig at Meghan becomes even more significant considering that Sydney is married to an NHL player, someone Meghan had tried to get close to during her time in Toronto.
It seems that Jessica is still bitter about Meghan distancing herself from her and her daughter after the wedding and the Megxit saga.
Another reason for Jessica’s resentment is the cancellation of her show, “I Do Redo,” which she had leveraged after the Royal Wedding.
The show was scrapped due to the racist claims against her, and her career has never fully recovered.
Meghan and Jessica’s friendship blossomed during Meghan’s time on Suits, and Jessica was believed to be her unofficial maid of honor.
She was even expected to accompany the couple on their first royal tour and was invited to Meghan’s baby shower in New York City.
However, their relationship took a turn when lifestyle blogger Sasha Exeter called out Jessica for displaying white privilege in the fashion blogging community.
Exeter shared her grievances in an 11-minute Instagram video, revealing that Jessica had sent her a threatening message.
Jessica later issued a public apology, acknowledging her privilege and promising to learn and support black voices.
She also made a veiled reference to Meghan, hinting at a personal experience where race was a significant factor.
The fallout from the controversy resulted in Jessica losing TV gigs and a reality show, as well as seemingly ending her friendship with Meghan.
According to an insider, Meghan had already started distancing herself from Jessica, feeling that Jessica was using their friendship to boost her own career.
The white privilege row provided Meghan with the excuse she needed to cut ties with Jessica for good.
It seems their friendship has never fully recovered, especially since Jessica seemed to be capitalizing on their relationship for personal gain.
Fans speculated that their friendship hit another rough patch in June 2021 when Jessica shared a quote about losing close friends on her Instagram story.
The passage spoke about how life changes, and sometimes you lose pieces of yourself, but eventually, new love and better friends come along, making you stronger.
This post mirrored a similar snub in May, when Meghan was left out of Jessica’s Instagram post celebrating her best girlfriends.
Jessica also shared a cryptic post prior to the release of Harry and Meghan’s Netflix documentary.
Although she didn’t appear in the documentary, she was believed to be on the phone with Meghan in a clip before Prince Harry proposed.
These incidents further highlight the strained relationship between the two friends.
It remains to be seen whether Jessica and Meghan will ever reconcile their differences and restore their once-close bond.
For now, it seems that their friendship has been irreparably damaged, with Jessica feeling the consequences of her actions and Meghan moving forward with her own endeavors.
