In a recent turn of events, Megan, the Duchess of Sussex, has been barred from attending a high-profile gala hosted by the Gianko Foundation.
The CEO of the Nigerian charity, Afam Onyema, made this decision after exposing Megan’s lack of substantial contributions to their cause.
While the Archwell Foundation, co-founded by Megan and Prince Harry, claimed to have made a donation to support schoolgirls in Nigeria, no evidence or mention of the amount was provided.
The Archwell Foundation, through a statement on their website, announced their support for girls’ education and health in Nigeria.
They revealed that they had sent school supplies and menstrual products to young scholars in collaboration with the Gianko Foundation.
This organization is known for providing critical health care and education services in Nigeria, particularly to young female victims of terrorism and gender inequality.
The AWF’s assistance will also include menstrual health and education for 2,500 girls in the region.
However, the Gianko Foundation’s supporters, including Oprah, Angelina Jolie, Disney, Netflix, and Chris Rock, have no records of Megan or Archwell being among them.
Afam Onyema, the CEO of Gianko, expressed his disappointment at the lack of involvement from the Archwell staff in any of their projects.
The only public contribution made by Megan was a $25 Starbucks gift card, which she believed would resonate with Nigerians due to her partial Nigerian heritage and love for coffee.
It is worth mentioning that Megan did participate in the Save with Stories campaign for Save the Children in 2020, where she shared a video alongside her son Archie.
However, her involvement with charities located within the UK, particularly Sussex, has been minimal and unreported.
Critics argue that Megan only donates to causes that align with her desired public image, using charity as a prop to advance her self-image.
Despite not being on the guest list or listed as a philanthropist or sponsor, the Sussexes have already purchased a seat for the upcoming 2023 Gianko Foundation Family Reunion Hollywood Gala.
The event, scheduled for September 29th, promises a red carpet reception with premium open bar, African-inspired appetizers, Nigerian music, a silent auction, and celebrity appearances.
The program will feature special guests, remarks from Gianko’s leadership, and a video showcasing their work in Nigeria.
Megan and Harry will make a celebrity appearance, having paid $245 per ticket to attend.
The Gianko Foundation was founded in 2005 by Dr. Godwin Onyema and his family.
Its name is an acronym derived from the initials of each family member – Godwin, Abele, Afam, Nish, and Nima.
The foundation has been dedicated to providing education and healthcare services to girls in Nigeria, supporting their well-being and empowering them through education.
As this story unfolds, the controversy surrounding Megan’s involvement with charities and her true intentions continues to raise questions.
It remains to be seen how this incident will impact her public image and future philanthropic endeavors.
