Princess Charlotte, the seven-year-old daughter of Prince William and Duchess Kate, is expected to be granted one of the most prestigious royal titles in the future.
In a new book by veteran royal correspondent Robert Jobson, it is revealed that her current title, Princess Charlotte of Wales, will change as she grows older.
According to Jobson’s book, “Our King Charles III, The Man and the Monarch,” Charlotte is next in line to become the future Duchess of Edinburgh.
The book explains that King Charles, mindful of the fact that his eldest son, nine-year-old Prince George, is already destined to be king, has carefully reserved this grand title for Princess Charlotte.
Currently, she is affectionately called Lottie by her mother and Mionette, which means “cute little thing” in French, by her father.
While King Charles has appointed his brother Edward as the new Duke of Edinburgh, this title is only for Edward’s lifetime.
After Edward’s passing, Charles has made it clear that Charlotte, now seven years old, should assume the role of Duchess of Edinburgh.
Princess Charlotte is also shaping up to follow in the footsteps of her great aunt, Princess Anne.
Princess Anne held the title of Princess Royal, a lifelong designation bestowed upon the eldest daughter of the reigning monarch.
When Prince William ascends to the throne, he will have the option to grant Charlotte the title of Princess Royal following the passing of her great aunt, just as it has been done for centuries.
The last Princess Royal before Princess Anne was Princess Mary, the late queen’s aunt and eldest daughter of George V and Queen Mary of Teck.
On a different note, there have been unconfirmed rumors circulating on Twitter by user Evans E. regarding Prince Harry’s title.
It is speculated that there are plans to make the Dukedom of Sussex a lifetime appointment rather than hereditary.
If this were to happen, the title would revert back to the crown upon Harry’s death.
Some royal experts believe that King Charles III might sever ties and definitively strip Prince Harry’s family of their royal titles, which could potentially alleviate some of the problems the king faces as monarch.
These speculations have emerged due to Prince Harry’s recent visit to British soil, which has caused new complications for Buckingham Palace as tabloids claim he has returned to assert his rights over properties now belonging to his uncle, Prince Andrew.
It is believed that King Charles aims to prevent Archie Harrison, Prince Harry’s son, from inheriting the Duke of Sussex title.
Royal expert Richard Eden suggests that the king will use a precedent he set last week when he made his brother Prince Edward the Duke of Edinburgh.
Charles declared that the title would revert to the monarch after Edward’s death instead of passing on to his son.
Discussing this decision, Eden mentioned on the Palace Confidential Talk Show, “I’ve heard it said that part of the reason is that the king wants to stop Archie from inheriting that title of the Duke of Sussex.
So this might be part of that, so he’s now set the precedent.”
However, implementing such a decision with all the royal dukes, including the well-respected Dukes of Gloucester and Kent, could pose challenges for the king.
Earlier this month, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry addressed the issue of their children’s titles in a statement.
They stated that their children’s titles have been established since their grandfather became the monarch and that this matter had been settled in alignment with Buckingham Palace’s guidelines.
