Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, also known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have once again made headlines in the royal world.
This time, it is their choice to give their children royal titles that has raised eyebrows.
Their daughter, born earlier this year, has been referred to as Princess Little Bit Diana in a statement about her Christian name.
In addition, the palace has updated its website to recognize their son, Archie Harrison, with his royal title.
This decision has been met with criticism and deemed highly ironic by royal expert Christopher Anderson.
Anderson, the author of “The King: The Life of Charles III,” claims that the Sussexes essentially forced King Charles into recognizing their grandchild’s royal titles with their statement.
He believes that this move would have frustrated palace aides, whom Princess Diana used to refer to as “men in gray,” as they were caught off guard and had to quickly update the website.
Furthermore, Anderson criticized Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for insisting on royal titles despite their own criticisms of the monarchy in the media, their memoir, and their Netflix docu-series.
He finds it ironic that they wanted their children to have the full treatment when they themselves are no longer working royals, living halfway around the world and frequently criticizing the palace.
The Sussexes have been involved in a bitter feud with the rest of the royal family, making allegations of institutional racism and unfair treatment by key members.
Prince Harry’s memoir included claims of friction between the Sussexes and the Waleses, even alleging that Prince William once shoved him into a dog bowl during an argument.
Despite this strained relationship, Buckingham Palace has extended an olive branch to the Sussexes.
King Charles has invited Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to his coronation on May 6, 2023.
While the couple has yet to confirm their attendance, it is widely expected that they will make the trip from the U.S.
However, there is speculation that the Sussexes may not appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace during the coronation due to their damaged relations with the rest of the royal family.
The coronation of King Charles is set to take place at Westminster Abbey, and a bank holiday has been declared to mark the occasion.
It remains to be seen how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will participate in the event and what their relationship with the rest of the royal family will be going forward.
The news of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision has sparked a lot of discussion among royal watchers.
