In a heartbreaking plea, Prince Harry reportedly approached his father, King Charles, with a desperate question about his grandchildren.
This revelation comes from a new book by Royal biographer Omid Scobie, titled “Endgame.”
The book claims that Harry begged to be allowed the use of Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor estate whenever he and Meghan Markle visit the UK.
Frogmore Cottage was gifted to the Sussexes by the late Queen after their wedding in 2018.
However, earlier this year, it was announced that the property would be taken back from them, leaving Harry and Meghan without a UK home.
They now have to rely on hotels or the hospitality of friends during their visits.
The Sussexes’ team received a letter from Sir Michael John Stevens, the keeper of the Privy Purse, stating that since Harry and Meghan were no longer working members of the royal family and lived abroad, they should return the keys to Frogmore Cottage.
The use of the cottage was initially a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth II.
According to the serialisation of “Endgame” in French magazine Paris Match, the children have only visited the UK once since the move.
Harry has been embroiled in a legal battle with the Home Office over security arrangements for him and his family during their stays in the country.
The fact that grandparents need to provide housing in order to see their grandchildren is a concept that many find perplexing.
Instead of being heartbreaking, some view this situation as a form of blackmail.
Additionally, Harry and Meghan spent $14 million on a house in California, leaving them with limited resources for maintaining a UK residence.
It is worth noting that London offers numerous hotel options for their visits.
Furthermore, Prince Charles owns several homes with spare bedrooms, making it puzzling why they insisted on having their own place.
The lease for Frogmore Cottage was not renewed after Harry failed to make the necessary payments.
It is important to clarify that Queen Elizabeth II did not have the authority to gift the cottage, as it belongs to the Crown Estate, which only leases out unoccupied residences on Crown lands.
The gift from the late Queen may have covered the lease payments during her lifetime and potentially allowed her successors to continue the arrangement.
However, once the Sussexes moved out, the gift expired, and they were required to either pay for the lease or forfeit the property.
Meghan and Harry’s attitude towards Frogmore Cottage has been criticized as ungrateful and disparaging.
It appears that Harry had expected to receive Frogmore House, a much grander property.
Therefore, their strong reaction to the end of the lease raises questions.
According to French magazine Paris Match, a message circulated within the royal family advising them not to trust Harry after the release of his memoir.
The magazine claims that a source close to King Charles allegedly stated that the Prince of Wales became cautious after Harry called to pass on his best wishes three weeks after the book’s publication.
The message circulating within the family was to be wary of trusting Harry, and it was taken seriously by everyone involved.
