In a lighthearted Christmas video, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak couldn’t resist poking fun at Prince Harry, who recently made a phone call to King Charles.
The video, shared from Downing Street, shows Sunak wishing his followers a Merry Christmas while playfully roasting the Duke of Sussex.
Some Brits on social media have interpreted this as a festive dig at Prince Harry.
The video begins with Sunak alone in Number 10, writing out letters.
However, he soon realizes that he is the only one present and decides to have some fun.
He playfully knocks over a set of Coca-Cola cans, pretending to bowl while practicing his cricket skills.
Later, he dotes on Larry the Cat, giving him a kiss, before adding the final touches to his Christmas tree.
Afterwards, the Prime Minister settles down to enjoy a plate of fish and chips while watching the film Elf.
As he relaxes, he hears the phone in Downing Street’s press office ringing.
Sunak picks up the phone and jokingly tells the caller, who turns out to be Harry, “You’ve got the wrong number.”
Some fans believe that this playful jab is a reference to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex not being invited to the Royal Christmas at Sandringham.
One social media user commented, “Even Rishi, the UK’s Prime Minister, is roasting Prince Harry.”
It appears that Sunak wouldn’t have made this joke if Harry was still considered a member of the royal family.
Even Prince Andrew, who has faced public scrutiny, hasn’t been subjected to such public ridicule.
Prior to Christmas, it was revealed that Prince Harry had called King Charles in an attempt to mend ties and secure an invitation for himself and Meghan Markle.
However, despite one of the largest guest lists in recent years, including the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, Harry and Meghan did not receive an invitation.
This video from Rishi Sunak comes after Prince Harry publicly criticized the Prime Minister and his government.
Harry accused Sunak’s government of being at rock bottom and avoiding scrutiny by aligning with friendly newspapers.
Breaking royal protocol once again, he used his appearance in the phone hacking trial to criticize the serving government.
Harry expressed concerns that democracy in the UK was being threatened due to the collaboration between British media outlets and the government, which he believed maintained the status quo.
The public response to this playful jibe has been mixed.
Some speculate that Harry may have been calling the government office to discuss security matters, while others see it as a reflection of the general sentiment towards him.
Regardless of political views, it appears that the UK as a whole has developed a negative perception of Prince Harry.
This could be seen as a unifying factor among the public.
It is worth noting that Harry left the UK to escape negative press and regain control over his narrative.
However, the press he now receives is far from favorable.
This latest incident further solidifies the notion that Harry is not welcome back in the UK.
Many feel sympathy for him, as he had hoped to escape the scrutiny but now faces even harsher criticism.
