Prince William and Catherine indulged in an evening of entertainment and mirth at the Royal Variety Show on Friday.
However, not everyone found comedian Tom Allen’s jokes about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle amusing.
The show’s host, renowned for his sarcastic and witty humor, held nothing back in his mockery of the Sussexes, whom he referred to as the Duke and Duchess of Netflix.
Allen jestingly remarked that the couple had left the UK in search of a quieter life in California, where they have inked multi-million dollar deals with streaming platforms and made appearances on various shows and podcasts.
He also poked fun at their claims of racism and oppression within the royal family, suggesting that they faced unimaginable challenges such as deciding between a Range Rover or a Bentley, or whether to go skiing or to the beach.
According to Allen, their bravery shone through when they spoke their truth to Oprah, whom he cheekily referred to as a struggling chat show host.
The audience, including Prince William and Kate, responded with laughter and applause, as the couple were seen chuckling and smiling throughout the performance.
Despite being second in line to the throne, they appeared to be in high spirits and showed no signs of discomfort or displeasure at the comedian’s remarks.
However, some fans and commentators were less than impressed with Allen’s brand of humor.
They accused him of being disrespectful, insensitive, and even bullying towards Harry and Meghan.
These critics argued that Allen had crossed a line and should apologize to the couple, who have been open about their struggles with mental health and the impact of media scrutiny on their lives.
One Twitter user expressed their disdain, stating, “Tom Allen is not funny; he is cruel and mean.
He should be ashamed of himself for making fun of Harry and Meghan, who have endured so much.
He is a bully and a coward.”
Another user commented on Prince William and Kate’s reaction, saying, “I can’t believe they were laughing at Tom Allen’s jokes about Harry and Meghan.
They are supposed to be family, not enemies.
They are heartless and hypocritical.”
On Instagram, Allen shared a photo of himself with Prince William and Kate, captioning it, “What a night!
It was an honor to host the Royal Variety Show and meet the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
They were gracious and lovely, and they certainly have a great sense of humor.”
