Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have faced numerous challenges over the past year, and it seems that even their efforts to spread holiday cheer have been met with resistance and mockery.
The couple recently unveiled their 2023 holiday card through their Archwell Foundation newsletter, featuring a photo taken at the Robert F. Kennedy Ripple of Hope Award Gala in New York City.
However, unlike last year, they did not include their children, Archie and Lilibet, in the picture, which has ignited speculation and criticism.
Fans were left wondering why the Sussexes chose to exclude their children, who are rarely seen in public.
Some accused them of seeking attention and being selfish, suggesting that they were trying to avoid scrutiny over their parenting skills.
Additionally, some individuals ridiculed the couple for using an older photo from November instead of a more recent one.
However, the most surprising snub came from Vogue magazine, which removed the Sussexes’ holiday card from their website while featuring Kate Middleton on the cover.
The Duchess of Cambridge graced the front page of the January 2023 issue of Vogue, looking stunning in a red dress and tiara.
The magazine praised her for embodying grace, elegance, and style, and for serving as a pillar of strength for the royal family and the nation.
Vogue’s decision to remove Harry and Meghan’s card from their website was viewed by many as a deliberate act of disrespect towards the former royals, who have had a strained relationship with the publication for some time.
In 2019, Meghan became the first guest editor of Vogue’s September issue, which showcased 15 women she admired on the cover.
However, the issue received criticism for being overly political, preachy, and self-indulgent.
Some of the women chosen by Meghan, such as activist Greta Thunberg and actress Jameela Jamil, were also controversial figures who had clashed with the royal family or the British public.
Edward Ennenful, Vogue’s editor-in-chief and a close friend of Meghan, defended the issue, describing it as a courageous endeavor.
He also asserted that Meghan was the most misunderstood woman in the world, unfairly targeted by the media and the public.
Ennenful expressed hope that the issue would shift the conversation and reveal Meghan’s true character.
However, it appears that Vogue’s readers did not share his admiration for Meghan, as the issue reportedly sold less than half of the expected copies.
The Sun reported that only 120,000 copies were sold, compared to an average of 190,000 for a September issue, making it the worst-selling edition in the magazine’s history.
Vogue’s snub towards Meghan Markle not only highlights the magazine’s preference for Kate Middleton but also reflects the public’s sentiment towards the Sussexes.
According to a recent YouGov poll, Harry and Meghan’s popularity ratings have significantly declined in the UK, with only 27% of Britons holding a positive opinion of Harry and 24% for Meghan.
In contrast, Kate Middleton enjoys a 76% approval rating, making her the most popular royal after the Queen.
Vogue’s rejection of Meghan Markle serves as a clear indication that the Duchess of Sussex faces constant criticism regardless of her actions.
She has distanced herself from the royal family, the media, and the public, becoming one of the most disliked and ridiculed figures worldwide.
While she may have hoped that her holiday card would showcase a different side of her, it seemingly reinforced existing negative perceptions.
Meghan is viewed by many as a self-obsessed, fame-seeking, and unappreciative individual who does not deserve her royal status.
