Amidst the ongoing drama within the British royal family, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, found herself at the center of controversy when actress Natalie Portman unexpectedly pointed fingers at her during an appearance on the television show Watch What Happens Live.
Portman, known for her role as Padme Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, shared a memorable encounter she had with Prince Charles during the premiere of one of the films.
Recalling the slightly awkward yet amusing question posed by Prince Charles, Portman revealed that he inquired if she had been part of the original Star Wars movies.
Chuckling, she explained that she was only 18 at the time.
Despite the initial awkwardness, Portman described the royal as very friendly.
However, the conversation took a turn when the host, Andy Cohen, brought up the criticism surrounding Omid Scobie’s controversial book.
Portman hinted that she didn’t believe Prince Charles held discriminatory views, viewing the accusations as baseless and stemming from unreliable sources.
She alluded to Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey, suggesting that the allegations were merely a repetition of earlier claims.
Portman expressed her belief that Prince Charles harbored no ill will and described him as a pleasant person.
On the other hand, Omid Scobie, the author of the controversial book, vehemently defended his work, claiming to have written it at lightning speed.
Although he initially announced the project in July of the previous year, he unveiled the book’s title, “Endgame,” just a few months later in December.
Speculations arose that Scobie had access to rapid and direct information from Meghan’s camp, with rumors circulating that he met with her in Los Angeles hotels while writing the book.
The book’s release date was postponed due to the need to incorporate details about Queen Elizabeth’s passing.
Recent reports suggest that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may not have a place within the royal family when Prince William ascends to the throne.
Prince William has reportedly communicated his desire for business to continue as usual without the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in the royal fold.
He believes that welcoming them back would be detrimental to the monarchy and envisions the couple remaining on the fringes indefinitely.
Prince William firmly asserts that they should not be embraced within the royal family again.
In contrast, King Charles holds a more optimistic outlook on the possibility of reconciliation, primarily due to his familial ties with Prince Harry.
However, senior members of the royal family are acutely aware that Harry and Meghan’s popularity has sharply declined since their departure from the monarchy.
There are concerns that reintegrating the couple could prove catastrophic for the institution.
The prevailing sentiment among senior members is that they do not wish to face public disapproval or be perceived as weak for allowing the Sussexes back into the fold, especially considering their actions and statements in recent times.
