Prince Archie, caught in the crossfire of his parents’ public feud with the royal family, is the unfortunate victim of the latest race row engulfing Buckingham Palace.
While not much is usually said about the young prince, he has inadvertently played a significant role in one of the palace’s biggest crises.
According to Omid Scobie’s book “Endgame,” King Charles and Princess Catherine are reportedly the unnamed members of the royal family who expressed concerns about Archie’s skin color even before he was born.
The situation has escalated this week, with the Dutch translation of the book identifying Charles and Catherine as the culprits behind these concerns.
However, at present, it is a case of Scobie’s word against the palace’s silence.
Surprisingly, Meghan and Harry, who are known for sharing their opinions on various matters, have remained tight-lipped on this issue.
But let’s put aside the speculation about the future consequences for Meghan and Harry and focus on the real victims here: Archie and his sister, Lilibet.
The chances of Archie and Lilibet forming any meaningful connection with their British family seem slim.
The revelation that their grandfather had concerns about Archie’s skin color even before his birth has made it even more difficult.
Archie has spent very little time in the UK, while his little sister has yet to visit at all.
It is unclear if William and Catherine’s children have even met Archie, let alone Lilibet.
Despite staying just 650 meters apart during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, no effort was made to arrange a playdate between the cousins.
The short and medium-term repercussions of Scobie’s revelations and Meghan and Harry’s silence remain to be seen.
However, the long-term picture looks bleak for Archie and Lilibet.
These innocent children are growing up without knowing their grandfathers, one of whom has been cut off from their lives completely, while the other is on the opposing side of the Migxit fallout.
It is difficult to imagine a future where they have any real relationship with their British family.
While it was reported that Harry and Meghan would not decline an invitation to spend Christmas with the royal family, it was met with a resounding “no” from the palace.
It is understandable why the King would not want to spend time with them, considering the couple’s public criticisms.
But what about the invisible Sussex children?
Archie has never experienced the traditional Windsor Christmas celebrations, and the estrangement from his British family will undoubtedly have an impact on him.
Looking ahead, when these children reach adulthood, the implications of their estrangement become even more significant.
The burden of upholding the monarchy will likely fall on the shoulders of William and Catherine’s three children, who may be the only working members of the royal family left.
Meanwhile, Archie and Lilibet, raised in America but connected to the monarchy through their titles, will face the challenge of reconciling their dual identities.
While they may enjoy the perks of their unique position, such as endorsement deals and TV hosting gigs, their actions and associations will reflect back on the royal family.
The obstacles to Archie and Lilibet getting to know their British family are already numerous, and Scobie’s revelations have only added to the pile.
How will Archie feel knowing that his own grandfather and aunt were believed to have expressed bias against him before he was even born?
The events of this week have undoubtedly worsened the divide and will continue to impact the next generation.
As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child, but in the case of Harry and Meghan, that village is unlikely to be anywhere near London.
The future remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: the children, who are innocent in this mess, will pay a high price for their parents’ actions.
