In an annual tradition that combines humor and reflection, Jimmy Carr once again takes the lead in the highly anticipated Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2023.
This television spectacle is a highlight of the holiday viewing schedule, inviting audiences to reminisce about the most memorable moments of the year.
The panel for this year’s show boasts a dynamic mix of comedic talent, with familiar faces set to grace the stage.
Among them are Mo Gilligan, Rosie Jones, Katherine Ryan, Richard Ayode, Mel Giudaroc, and Kevin Bridges, each bringing their unique style of comedy to the table.
Together, they will delve into the year’s news, pop culture, and quirky events in a battle of wit and knowledge.
As I tune in to watch the Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2023, Jimmy Carr introduces the news section and delivers a joke about Harry and Meghan.
What strikes me is that neither the panel nor the crowd chose to loudly disapprove of the joke made by Jimmy.
The show also features Charles Dance, who reads an excerpt from Harry’s memoir.
Interestingly, the parts where Harry talks about Meghan are read by none other than the iconic actor, Morgan Freeman.
At the 6-minute and 30-second mark, Jimmy Carr quips, “In June, Harry, the ginger formerly known as Prince, became the first British royal to give evidence in court for 130 days.
It’s disgusting the way the press have tried to manipulate, gaslight, and control Harry.
I mean, who do they think they are, Meghan?”
This isn’t the first time Jimmy Carr has taken a jab at Meghan and Harry.
Last year, he humorously criticized Meghan Markle during an episode of The Last Leg.
The comedian reviewed the couple’s new documentary and playfully mocked the Duchess of Sussex.
Joined by Judy Love from Loose Women, Jimmy reacted to the explosive six-part documentary about Harry and Meghan.
He jokingly stated, “I watched it.
There are some revelations in there.
I didn’t realize that Harry’s mother was Princess Diana.
If you haven’t seen it, cover your ears because there’s a spoiler.
She dies.”
He then added, “It’s a weird one.
They’re easy to make jokes about, but they seem like very nice people.”
Despite his initial praise for the couple, he slyly remarked, “But Meghan Markle, lifelong feminist.
Which she’s demonstrated by marrying a prince and giving up her job,” eliciting an uneasy reaction from the audience.
Repeating that it was just a joke, Jimmy gauged the reception to his cheeky remark amidst muted applause.
Fellow guest Judy reassured the audience and viewers at home, saying, “No, you’re allowed to applaud that,” while host Adam Hill squirmed in his seat.
Jimmy continued his segment by discussing the number one trending show on Netflix at the moment.
He referred to the Duke and Duchess’ request for privacy from the media and humorously commented, “Here’s the thing, if you want privacy, don’t do a documentary for Netflix.”
He then delivered the punchline, “Do it for Britbox,” which received much louder laughter from the audience.
