Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, made the decision not to join the Royal Family for Christmas this year.

Since stepping down as working members of the Royal Family in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have spent every Christmas away from the UK.
Despite their strained relationship with some senior members of the Royal Family, both Harry and the King share a desire to mend fences.
One of the first signs of this desire was when Prince Harry called his father on his 75th birthday last month.
It was a clear olive branch from the Sussexes.
In November, Meghan Markle also had a conversation with King Charles.
In a sweet gesture, Harry sent his father a video of their children, Archie and Lilibet, wishing him a happy birthday.
The conversation ended with the intention of speaking again soon.
While it is uncertain whether Harry and Meghan spoke to the King on Christmas Day, a gesture made by King Charles could be seen as a signal of his openness to forgiveness.
Sarah Ferguson, Prince Andrew’s ex-wife, joined the Royal Family at the Sandringham Christmas service this year.
This was the first time in over 30 years that she had attended the service.
Despite their separation and divorce in 1992 and 1996, respectively, Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew have maintained a good relationship for the sake of their two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
When Sarah Ferguson is in the UK, she resides with Prince Andrew at the Royal Lodge.
King Charles’s gesture to include Sarah Ferguson demonstrates that there may be a pathway for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to return in due time.
However, their public criticisms of the Royal Family will make their reintegration into the fold extremely challenging, especially considering their ongoing feud with Prince William and Princess Kate.
Nonetheless, King Charles’s public forgiveness of Sarah Ferguson has given a glimmer of hope for the Sussexes.
If they genuinely wish to rebuild bridges with the Royal Family, their chances of reconciliation have been bolstered.
It remains to be seen how this unfolding story will progress, but the possibility of a reunion between Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and the Royal Family is not entirely out of reach.
