Princess Kate found herself in a state of distress when Prince William abruptly canceled their New Year’s plans, leaving her in floods of tears.
Choosing where to spend Christmas can be a challenging decision for many couples, and it was no different for the Prince and Princess of Wales during their dating years.
Tradition dictated that Princess Kate could not spend Christmas with the royals at Sandringham before her marriage to Prince William.
As a result, they were forced to spend December 25th apart.
However, in 2006, after years of dating, the couple had made arrangements to celebrate the New Year together.
Unfortunately, according to Katie Nicholl’s book “The Making of a Royal Romance,” Princess Kate was devastated when William unexpectedly canceled their plans at the last minute.
This turn of events left her deeply concerned about the future of their relationship.
The book, released in 2011, reveals that Kate received the news over the phone on Boxing Day.
Nicholl writes that Prince William had been having second thoughts and sought advice from his father and grandmother regarding his future with Kate.
Both advised him against rushing into any decisions.
The book also mentions a brief split between the couple in 2008, with sources claiming that the late Queen Elizabeth II was disappointed by their separation.
However, their love story took a positive turn when Prince William and Kate Middleton were spotted kissing at an army party in Dorset’s Bovington Barracks shortly after their split.
The concert for Diana held at Wembley, commemorating the 10th anniversary of her death, also saw the attendance of Kate’s wider family.
She was accompanied by her younger brother, James Middleton.
The romance between Prince William and Kate Middleton was later confirmed, and they officially announced their engagement in November 2010.
During their first joint interview, the couple shared the sentimental value of Kate’s engagement ring, which once belonged to Prince William’s late mother, Princess Diana.
Prince William expressed his desire to keep his mother close to the joyous moments, saying, “Obviously, she’s not going to be around to share in all the fun and excitement, so this is my way of keeping her close to it all.”
The couple also reminisced about their early days as students at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where their relationship began.
Now, after nearly 13 years of marriage, Prince William and Princess Kate have three children together: Prince George, aged 10, Princess Charlotte, aged 8, and Prince Louis, aged 5.
