According to commentator Duncan Larcombe, the Duke of Sussex’s recent efforts to bury the hatchet and make peace with senior members of the royal family have been derailed.
Just a few weeks ago, there was a glimmer of hope that Prince Harry could soon reconcile with his father, King Charles, after a heartfelt phone call to wish him a happy 75th birthday.
Larcombe suggested that Harry had been adopting a more conciliatory tone towards the royals.
However, the claims made by Omid Scobie in his book have effectively undone his efforts.
Larcombe pointed out that recent exchanges between the Duke and the King had fueled speculation that Harry was attempting to bridge the gap.
Unfortunately, the revelations in Scobie’s book have made this task even more challenging.
The pressure is now mounting on Harry to distance himself from the book, a move that may be tempting for him given his previous attempts to soften his tone towards the royals.
There were signs that he was trying to put an end to the feud from his side, but the timing of the book release couldn’t be worse for Harry.
It’s safe to say that this is his worst nightmare.
Prince Harry’s relationship with his father and older brother, Prince William, has been strained even before his departure from royal life.
In his memoir, “Spare,” Harry detailed how William was allegedly confrontational about his blossoming romance with Meghan Markle, urging him to proceed with caution.
He also accused the institution of failing to make Meghan feel welcome and ignoring their pleas for help in the face of negative media coverage.
Scobie’s book echoes some of the allegations made by the Duke and Duchess in their various interviews since stepping down.
The author particularly criticizes Prince William, describing him as having a short temper, and Kate, the Princess of Wales, as a cold person eager to please the institution.
While doubts remain about whether Harry and Meghan can truly reconcile with the Prince and Princess of Wales, sources close to the King have maintained that he remains open to welcoming his son and his family back into the fold.
As the Christmas season approaches, Harry and Meghan have yet to confirm their plans.
