When it comes to royal protocol, even the joyous occasion of giving birth is not exempt.
Princess Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, had to adhere to a strict rule after welcoming her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
According to reports, she was required to wait before sharing the happy news with her parents and friends.
Royal rules dictate that the current monarch must be informed first about the births of future monarchs before anyone else.
Therefore, when Prince George was born in 2013 at St Mary’s Hospital, Prince William and Kate had to inform Queen Elizabeth before spreading the word.
Those present in the delivery room at Paddington Hospital were sworn to secrecy, adding an extra layer of confidentiality.
Prince William even made the call to his grandmother using a specially encrypted phone.
Furthermore, as with any direct heir to the throne, the Queen had to give her approval for the chosen baby names, in accordance with royal protocol.
This meant that Prince William and Kate had to seek the Queen’s consent for their children’s names.
Following Prince George’s birth, the couple welcomed Princess Charlotte in 2015 and Prince Louis in 2018.
However, at all three births, Kate was unable to share the news with her loved ones or reveal the names of her children until the appropriate time.
Now, Prince George is 10 years old, Princess Charlotte is 8, and Prince Louis is 5.
