The royal couple’s lackluster performance in terms of public appearances has raised eyebrows and drawn criticism.
In 2023, Princess Kate undertook 172 engagements, while Prince William had 123.
These numbers pale in comparison to Princess Anne’s impressive 457 outings during the same period.
Gareth Russell, a royal commentator, shared his insights on the matter in an exclusive interview with GB News.
Russell emphasized that Prince William’s prioritization of family life reflects his mother’s influence.
He stated, “This is where you very much see that William is Diana’s son.
Recently, there has almost been a perception that he is Charles’s son and Harry is Diana’s son.
But you know Diana was immensely close with William.”
Russell acknowledged the impact of Princess Diana on the monarchy and suggested that the criticism may not affect the Prince and Princess of Wales as deeply as it would other members of the royal family.
However, Russell also pointed out a potential danger to the couple’s reputation due to their work-life balance.
He cautioned, “The danger for them is that even though this is almost certainly motivated by prioritizing their home life, it has enabled their critics to paint them as lazy.
That reputation can take quite a bit of time to shirk off at the moment.”
Amidst the challenges faced by the monarchy in recent years, Prince William and Princess Kate were expected to be the shining stars of the royal family, attracting positive publicity.
However, Russell warned that if they continue to be seen less frequently, they run the risk of allowing their critics to shape their narrative.
He argued that undertaking as many public engagements as possible would not only benefit William and Kate’s public image but also contribute to the overall reputation of the royal family.
