Queen Camilla, known for her avid reading habits and support for literacy projects, is set to follow in the footsteps of Meghan Markle by releasing her own podcast series.
While the Duchess of Sussex’s Archetype program focused on breaking stereotypes associated with women, Queen Camilla’s podcast will delve into the world of books, literature, and literacy across all ages.
In the inaugural episode of “Queen’s Reading Room,” which is scheduled to be released on January 8, the Queen consort offers insights into her personal life and her role as a grandmother.
When asked about her favorite books to read to her grandchildren, she enthusiastically reveals, “I think the one I enjoyed reading more than anything else was ‘Harry Potter: All the Stories.'”
Despite her love for reading to her grandchildren, Queen Camilla admits to one shortcoming – she cannot mimic voices.
She humorously confesses, “I’m completely hopeless at it.
I was a really bad actor at school and I’ve never been able to master the art of mimicry.”
However, she praises her husband, King Charles, for his talent in this area, stating, “My husband, he does it brilliantly, he can do all the voices.”
This is not the first time Queen Camilla has spoken about King Charles’s involvement in reading to their grandchildren.
In a 2017 interview with the Daily Mail, she shared, “Sometimes, when we are with my husband in Scotland, he reads them ‘Harry Potter.’
And he does all the voices, because he is a brilliant mimic.”
The Queen fondly describes how her grandchildren are captivated by King Charles’s storytelling abilities.
Queen Camilla has five grandchildren from her daughter Laura Lopes and son Tom Parker Bowles.
During the coronation in May, her twin grandsons Gus and Louis Lopes, as well as Freddie Parker Bowles, served as pages of honor.
Additionally, she has five step-grandchildren: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet.
The podcast series is part of Queen Camilla’s broader initiative, the Queen’s Reading Room, which initially began as an Instagram page when she was still a Duchess.
Over time, it has evolved into more than just an online book club and now operates as a charity, providing additional support to the Queen’s literacy-related endeavors.
The initiative also includes a literary festival held at Hampton Court Palace.
Each of the eight podcast episodes will feature a segment from Queen Camilla herself, along with interviews with various guests.
The first episode will showcase a conversation with best-selling crime author Peter James.
With her podcast series, Queen Camilla aims to promote the joy of reading, encourage literacy, and share her passion for books with a wider audience.
