In the lead-up to the historic coronation, Prince William and Princess Catherine shared a sweet moment with King Charles during their rehearsal.
The heartwarming scene, which has now gone viral on social media, captured the affectionate bond between father and son.
The rehearsal took place after the release of Charles III, the coronation year, on Boxing Day.
Prince William, dressed in a suit, stood in front of his father, who was seated wearing his everyday clothes with a cloak over his shoulders.
As part of the coronation vow practice, William bent down to kiss Charles on the right side of his face.
However, it seemed that Charles wasn’t entirely satisfied.
William, still practicing his vows, asked, “Oh, is it the left side?
Your left cheek is better.”
He then proceeded to give his father a second peck, playfully tickling his face with his hand instead of actually touching the crown.
Initially, it seemed as though William would simply mimic the kiss and save it for the actual coronation.
However, he surprised everyone by going through with it, not just once, but twice.
The public rarely gets a glimpse into the private interactions of the royal family, making this documentary footage all the more intriguing.
The documentary also captured other intimate moments, such as King Charles poking fun at his “sausage fingers” while Prince William practiced robing him.
Additionally, the staff at Buckingham Palace warmly welcomed the royal family back during the coronation service.
Another heartwarming scene showed King Charles embracing his daughter-in-law, Princess Kate, with a hug and a kiss.
Princess Kate then dipped into a quick curtsy, following royal protocol.
King Charles extended the same warm greeting to his granddaughter, Princess Charlotte, who expertly curtsied after their hug.
Even Prince George and Prince Louis joined in, hugging their grandfather.
The Bishop of Hereford, Richard Jackson, who was present during the rehearsal, commented on the extraordinary affection displayed by the royal family.
He noted that they are clearly a close-knit family, and being part of this occasion felt like being part of both a family and national event.
During the coronation service at Westminster Abbey, Charles announced that he had bestowed upon William and Catherine the senior royal titles of Prince and Princess of Wales.
These titles, traditionally held by the eldest son of the monarch and his wife, now make William and Catherine the most senior royals after the King and Queen Camilla.
In an emotional moment captured by TV cameras, King Charles showed his heartfelt tribute to his eldest son.
After William paid homage to him during the coronation, Charles whispered “Amen” and “Thank you, William.”
This break from tradition saw William as the only royal duke to pay homage to the King, possibly introduced to avoid any uncertainty regarding Prince Harry and Prince Andrew’s participation.
The coronation rehearsal showcased the deep bond between Prince William and King Charles, captivating audiences worldwide.
With their genuine affection and warm interactions, it is evident that the royal family is not only united by duty but also by love and support for one another.
