The reign of King Charles is facing challenges as two other senior members of the royal family are recognized as the driving force behind the brand.
Despite ascending to the throne in 2022, King Charles is still not held in the same high regard as the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate, according to royal author Clive Irving.
In an interview with Daily Express US, Irving stated that William and Kate have become the face of the royal family brand, overshadowing King Charles.
He expressed surprise at the king’s apparent passivity and lack of energy, remarking that he struggles to project himself.
Comparing the two, Irving described William as a man of the present while Charles remains stuck in the past.
Furthermore, Irving alleged that Prince William does not believe his father is capable of handling the controversy surrounding Prince Andrew.
This belief stems from the king’s perceived lack of involvement in William’s environmental initiative, the Earthshot Prize, which William took as a personal slight.
Drawing comparisons to Queen Elizabeth’s ascension to the throne in 1952, Irving highlighted the differences in their situations.
While Elizabeth became queen after her father’s passing, Charles’s father is still alive, posing a real problem as he fails to capture the public’s attention.
The author believes that Charles has not been able to win over the public in the same way his mother did, leaving many indifferent to his presence.
Adding to the challenges faced by King Charles, there are reports suggesting that he may grant William and Queen consort Camilla the power to bestow royal warrants.
This move comes as part of a review of royal warrants for approximately 800 firms supplying the royal household.
The director of international affairs at the UK Fashion and Textile Association, Paul Alger, expressed concerns about the future of these warrants, particularly when there are fewer individuals available to grant them.
Alger also mentioned that the king may focus on assessing the sustainable and ethical practices of businesses before granting warrants, reflecting his passion for the built environment, agriculture, animal husbandry, and farming.
As King Charles’s reign continues, it becomes increasingly evident that he faces an uphill battle in maintaining relevance and public support.
While William and Kate take center stage as the best part of the royal brand, Charles struggles to make a breakthrough and connect with the people.
The future of the monarchy hangs in the balance as the dynamics within the royal family continue to shift.
