A group of esteemed aviation figures, including descendants of the Wright brothers, Amelia Earhart, and Neil Armstrong, have launched a petition to revoke Prince Harry’s Living Legend of Aviation Award.
They argue that the award, presented to him on January 19, 2024, in Beverly Hills, California, by the non-profit organization Living Legends of Aviation, is both fraudulent and insulting.
With over 10,000 signatures already gathered, the petition claims that the Duke of Sussex does not deserve the honor bestowed upon him.
Prince Harry was recognized for his remarkable achievements in aviation as a former British Army helicopter pilot who flew combat missions in Afghanistan, saving the lives of Allied forces and countless civilians.
However, the petitioners contend that this information is misleading and false.
According to his own platoon members and commander, Prince Harry never engaged in combat.
A 2023 article by The Telegraph revealed that during his second tour in Afghanistan in 2012-2013, he was kept out of harm’s way and rarely faced enemy fire.
A senior officer quoted in the article stated, “Harry was never in danger.
He was always behind the wire, and the closest he ever came to the enemy was on a screen.
He was very frustrated by that.
He wanted to be a real soldier, but he was just a glorified chauffeur.”
The petitioners further accuse Prince Harry of exploiting his military service for personal gain and publicity, particularly after he and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped back from their royal duties and relocated to the United States in 2020.
They assert that Prince Harry’s alleged fake credentials have betrayed his fellow soldiers and veterans, while also disrespecting the true heroes who risked their lives in service to their countries.
Meghan Markle is also implicated, with the petitioners claiming that she influenced Prince Harry’s decision to accept the award and manipulated him into leaving his royal obligations and family behind.
The petition demands that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle apologize to the aviation community and the public for their deceit and dishonesty.
Additionally, they insist that the couple return the award to the Living Legends of Aviation.
The petitioners also call upon the organization to review their criteria for selecting award recipients, urging them to honor those who have genuinely made significant contributions to aviation and aerospace.
Support for the petition has come from various celebrities and public figures, including Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne, Howard Stern, Bethany Frankel, and Chris Rock.
These individuals have criticized Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for what they perceive as hypocrisy and narcissism.
They specifically highlighted the couple’s complaints and grievances in their Netflix docuseries, “Harry and Meghan.”
As of now, the Living Legends of Aviation have not responded to the petition, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have remained silent on the matter.
However, sources close to the couple have revealed that they are unperturbed by the backlash.
They maintain their pride in their achievements and philanthropic endeavors.
