The 2024 BAFTA Film Awards nominations have been unveiled as Prince Charles takes care of ailing Kate.
This prestigious event aims to honor outstanding performances and celebrate the best films released in the past year.
With an impressive number of nominations, Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” is poised for success this year.
Following closely behind are “Poor Things” and “Killers of the Flower Moon,” both receiving multiple nominations.
Scheduled for February 18th, the awards ceremony will be held at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London.
The event will be exclusively broadcast in the UK on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
Additionally, the BAFTA Film Awards will be available on Britbox International in various countries, including the US, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, South Africa, and Australia.
More international broadcasters are expected to confirm their coverage soon.
While many films by American directors made the nomination list, the highly anticipated Meghan and Harry Netflix series did not receive a ticket.
Consequently, the couple will not be attending the BAFTA ceremony.
This exclusion is unsurprising, considering that Prince William serves as the president of BAFTA.
However, rumors suggest that Prince Harry has requested permission from his brother to attend and preside over the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards.
This request stems from Prince Charles’ focus on royal duties, particularly during Catherine and King Charles’ health challenges.
Sources indicate that this idea originates from Meghan Markle herself.
She hopes to leverage this opportunity to connect with A-list Hollywood celebrities on the red carpet.
Had Princess Catherine not been unwell, she would have undoubtedly accompanied William to the awards ceremony.
According to the Daily Mail, Prince William is likely to miss the BAFTAs and other engagements to support his wife during her recovery from abdominal surgery.
Kensington Palace announced that the Princess of Wales underwent a successful abdominal operation and is currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
Prince Charles will remain by her side, prioritizing his family over official duties during her hospitalization and immediate post-recovery period.
Consequently, he has postponed several engagements, including the BAFTA Film Awards on February 18th, as well as the upcoming Six Nations rugby tournament and various charity events.
As a patron of the Welsh rugby team, William will likely miss the Six Nations games.
The tournament kicks off on February 2nd, with France playing against Ireland at the Orange Velodrome in Marseille.
That weekend will also feature matches between England and Italy in Rome, as well as Wales and Scotland in Cardiff.
The Prince and Princess of Wales are not expected to attend these games.
Furthermore, William was scheduled to conduct investitures throughout January and February, but he will now be unable to fulfill these duties.
It is likely that Prince Hassan will step in as his replacement.
In previous years, Prince William has made appearances at the BAFTAs.
He has held the position of BAFTA president since February 2010.
However, it appears that he will miss out on attending this year’s event.
Last week, Prince Charles, without Kate, met with rugby legend Rob Burrow to present him with his CBE.
