Passion Pictures, the renowned production company, has recently made a surprising decision to cancel talks with WME (William Morris Endeavor) as they have chosen Kim Kardashian to take on the main role in an upcoming docu-series about the legendary Elizabeth Taylor.
The three-part documentary, titled “Elizabeth Taylor Rebel Superstar,” is commissioned by the BBC and will be produced by the Oscar-winning team at Passion Pictures, known for their exceptional work on projects like “Searching for Sugarman” and the recent Sundance sensation, “Superman.”
The series aims to delve deep into the artistry and technique of Elizabeth Taylor, exploring her iconic performances and how she revolutionized the relationship between stars and their admirers.
From breaking Hollywood’s glass ceiling to becoming a formidable billion-dollar businesswoman, activist, and advocate, Elizabeth Taylor’s multifaceted legacy will be thoroughly examined.
Kim Kardashian, who will not only serve as the executive producer but also the on-screen talent, expressed her excitement about being a part of this project.
She described Elizabeth Taylor as unapologetically herself and a resilient fighter.
Kardashian had the privilege of conducting the final interview with Taylor before her passing and admired her ability to continuously evolve and embrace different chapters in her life, serving as a trailblazer for those who followed in her footsteps.
Joining Kardashian in this exploration of Taylor’s life are notable figures such as Dame Joan Collins, who famously vied for the role of Cleopatra, Margaret O’Brien, a schoolmate from their time on the NGM backlot, and close friend Carol Bayer-Sager.
The series will also feature insights from leading scientist Dr. Anthony Forci, who collaborated with Elizabeth Taylor in the fight against AIDS, among others.
Hamish Ferguson, the executive producer at Passion Pictures, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Elizabeth developed and defined our understanding of stardom and celebrity across decades.
A unique talent and true luminary, we’re hugely excited to explore her extraordinary life and enduring legacy.”
Interestingly, there were negotiations between Meghan Markle’s agency, WME, and director Hamish Ferguson to secure a supporting role for Meghan in the docu-series.
However, Meghan insisted on playing the main role, aiming to portray the film’s version of Elizabeth Taylor.
It is worth noting that Elizabeth Taylor had a close relationship with members of the royal family, adding another layer of significance to Meghan’s desire for the lead role.
Unfortunately, Meghan’s aspirations were not fulfilled, and Kim Kardashian ultimately won the deal.
Following the failed negotiations, Meghan allegedly spread rumors about her potential return to the TV show “Suits” through a deal with NBCUniversal.
She claimed that the character in the new season would be based on her.
However, a representative from NBCUniversal denied these claims, stating that there was no truth to them.
The decision to cast Kim Kardashian as the lead has sparked some controversy, with critics questioning her qualifications and experience in comparison to the talented cast and crew involved in the project.
Some have even called it an insult to the professionals working behind the scenes, who possess far more expertise than Kardashian.
