Queen Elizabeth II, in the final months of her life, was determined to spend precious time with her family, fully aware that the end was near.
Despite suffering from multiple medical conditions, the Queen wanted to create important memories for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
While the public was aware of her reduced royal duties due to declining mobility, the monarch had accepted her imminent death and sought to make the most of every second, according to a royal biographer.
In an upcoming biography titled “Charles III, New King, New Court: The Inside Story,” it is revealed that Queen Elizabeth knew she would not live to see 2023.
Instead, she peacefully passed away on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96.
A friend of hers shared in the book that she had come to terms with her medical prognosis, realizing that she would not reach the age of 100 like her mother.
Consequently, she was determined to make the most of her final year, ensuring that her family, especially the younger members, would be left with happy memories of her.
To achieve this, she made sure to gather the entire family at Balmoral over the summer.
The exact cause of the Queen’s death remains unknown due to her experiencing various medical conditions.
Her private secretary, Sir Edward Young, described her passing in a memo as “very peaceful” and emphasized that she slipped away in her sleep, unaware of anything and without experiencing any pain.
According to the new biography, when the footman opened a red box of paperwork on the Queen’s deathbed, two letters were discovered.
One of these letters was addressed to King Charles, while the other was intended for Sir Edward.
Even on her deathbed, Queen Elizabeth had unfinished work, as noted by author Robert Hardman.
She managed to fulfill her responsibilities until the very end.
Despite initial concerns about the inconvenience of dying at Balmoral, Queen Elizabeth was able to spend her final weeks at her home in the Scottish Highlands.
Princess Anne, her daughter, revealed in a BBC documentary titled “Charles III, The Coronation Year” that there was a moment when the Queen felt it might be more difficult to pass away at Balmoral.
However, her family reassured her that the location should not be a factor in her decision-making process.
Princess Anne expressed hope that her mother ultimately felt it was the right choice.
During the Queen’s state funeral on September 19th, Princess Anne shared her sense of relief as the responsibility of ruling was passed on to the next generation.
She also mentioned that it was purely coincidental that she happened to be at Balmoral when her mother died.
She had stopped by for a few days while returning from a break on the west coast of Scotland.
Queen Elizabeth II’s determination to create lasting memories with her loved ones, despite her declining health, showcases her unwavering commitment to her family and duty as the monarch.
Her final year was filled with cherished moments, ensuring that her legacy lives on through the memories she left behind.
