American rapper Ice Cube has recently voiced his opinion on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s choice to step down from their senior roles within the royal family.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Ice Cube expressed that he believes the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should have remained in the royal family to enact change.
Ice Cube addressed a controversial headline from the Daily Mail that labeled Meghan as being “almost straight out of Compton,” a reference to the rapper’s debut album released 35 years ago.
Compton, a neighborhood in South Central Los Angeles known for its history of gang violence, sparked a national conversation about race due to the way Meghan was portrayed as coming from that area, despite not having any actual ties to Compton.
During the Netflix documentary “Harry and Meghan,” the couple revealed their struggles within the royal family, with Meghan expressing her difficulties and feeling isolated.
Ice Cube criticized their decision to leave Britain, suggesting that if they truly wanted to instigate change, they should have stayed within the royal family instead of moving to the US to capitalize on media opportunities.
Ice Cube emphasized that while some remarkable individuals have emerged from Compton, he believes Meghan and Harry are not among them.
He made a comparison between individuals from Compton and Beverly Hills, insinuating that Meghan and Harry do not measure up to the caliber of those from Compton.
In addition to Ice Cube’s remarks, his close friend Kevin Hart also weighed in on the situation, suggesting that Meghan and Harry should have relinquished their royal privileges to pave their own path in the US.
Hart echoed sentiments shared by comedian Chris Rock, who criticized Meghan for her claims of racism, attributing her struggles to internal family issues rather than external discrimination.
Prince Harry disclosed in the Netflix documentary series that Meghan had experienced suicidal thoughts in 2019 due to the immense pressure she faced as a member of the royal family.
Reflecting on the situation, Harry admitted that he prioritized his royal duties over supporting his wife during her time of need, expressing regret over his past actions.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex chose to step back from their royal duties in 2020 to pursue a more independent life in America.
Their decision was met with mixed reactions, with some applauding their courage to prioritize their mental well-being, while others criticized them for abandoning their royal responsibilities.
Ice Cube’s comments underscore the ongoing debate surrounding Meghan and Harry’s departure from the royal family, highlighting differing perspectives on their motivations and the impact of their choices.
As the couple continues to navigate their new lives outside the royal spotlight, public scrutiny and opinions remain divided on their legacy and future endeavors.
