Prince Charles III recently bestowed upon his younger brother, Prince Edward, the prestigious title of Duke of Edinburgh.
This decision has triggered a shift in the royal hierarchy, leading to his former title of Wessex being inherited by his son, James Viscount Severn, bypassing Lady Louise.
A recent poll conducted by Express.co.uk revealed overwhelming support, with over 80% of readers advocating for Lady Louise to be granted a new title.
The official announcement from Buckingham Palace coincided with Edward’s 59th birthday, where it was disclosed that he had been officially designated as the Duke of Edinburgh.
In conjunction with this elevation, his wife, Sophie, also underwent a title transformation from Countess of Wessex to the Duchess of Edinburgh.
The statement from Buckingham Palace expressed, “His Majesty the King has graciously conferred the Dukedom of Edinburgh upon Prince Edward on the occasion of his 59th birthday today, with the title remaining valid for his lifetime.”
This historic Dukedom of Edinburgh was last bestowed upon Prince Philip in 1947 following his marriage to Princess Elizabeth, who later assumed the title of Duchess of Edinburgh prior to her ascension to the throne in 1952.
The newly appointed Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are committed to upholding Prince Philip’s legacy by championing opportunities for youth from diverse backgrounds to realize their full potential.
The regulations outlined in the Succession to the Crown Act of 2013 do not extend to the offspring of the Wessex couple, as they were born subsequent to its enactment.
Consequently, their 15-year-old son, James, takes precedence over his 19-year-old sister, Louise.
A recent poll conducted by Express.co.uk sought public opinion on whether Lady Louise should be granted new titles.
Out of the 2,631 votes cast, a resounding 86% advocated for her to receive a new royal title, while 11% opposed the idea, and 3% remained undecided.
Numerous supporters of the royal family argued in favor of Lady Louise being accorded a new title, underscoring her deserving nature.
Conversely, there exists a faction advocating against the automatic bestowal of titles to Edward and Sophie’s children, suggesting that such titles should be granted later in life.
Despite turning 18 in November 2021, Lady Louise opted not to adopt the title of Princess, indicating her current disinterest in assuming royal responsibilities.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams shared insights with Express.co.uk, emphasizing that Lady Louise’s decision not to adopt the title of Princess implies a lack of immediate plans to engage in royal duties.
