The British public’s sentiments towards Prince Harry have been on a downward spiral ever since the release of his latest Netflix series, “Harry and Meghan.”
A recent survey conducted by YouGov in the UK, commissioned by the Times, revealed that nearly half of the participants are in favor of stripping the Duke of Sussex of his royal title.
The poll indicated that 44% of those surveyed support the idea of revoking Harry’s title, while 32% believe he should maintain it.
Interestingly, the survey also highlighted a more favorable view towards Prince William and Kate Middleton compared to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Following the debut of the two-part docuseries earlier this month, a significant 44% of respondents expressed greater sympathy towards the Prince and Princess of Wales, while only 17% leaned towards empathizing with the Sussexes.
The release of the documentary also had a negative impact on the public perception of Harry and Meghan, with 23% admitting to having a more unfavorable opinion of the couple, while just 7% reported a positive shift in their views.
In a bold move in January, Harry and Meghan declared their decision to step back from their official roles within the royal family, subsequently relocating to Montecito, California.
The majority of individuals surveyed (65%) believed that the couple voluntarily withdrew from their royal duties, with only 11% speculating that they were coerced into leaving.
During a televised special hosted by Oprah in 2021, Harry and Meghan made serious allegations of racism against an unnamed member of the royal family, claiming derogatory remarks were made about their son Archie’s skin color.
Despite these accusations, almost half (49%) of the respondents did not perceive the royal family as racist.
The couple’s quest for a royal summit and an apology from the royal family has garnered mixed reactions, with 53% of survey participants asserting that Harry and Meghan are entitled to an apology.
Subsequent to relinquishing their official roles, Harry and Meghan faced a setback when the Home Office decided against providing them with personal police security during visits to the UK.
This decision prompted legal action from Harry, challenging the Home Office’s stance.
The majority of the public sided with the Home Office, advocating against the provision of security by the UK government.
Looking ahead, speculations arise regarding Harry and Meghan’s potential attendance at King Charles’ coronation next summer, with 51% of the public in favor of extending an invitation, while 31% opposed the idea.
Notably, author Tom Quinn shared his perspective on the survey findings, expressing surprise that the documentary did not inflict more damage on the couple.
Quinn remarked on the couple’s demeanor, characterizing them as lost souls and highlighting the stark contrast in public sympathy towards the Prince and Princess of Wales, commending their stoicism.
