The possibility of Prince Harry resuming his royal duties has significantly dwindled due to his recent criticisms of key members of the royal family, according to insights from a royal correspondent.
Since stepping back as working royals in 2020, Harry and Meghan Markle have been candid about their experiences within the institution.
In his memoirs, Harry openly criticized his stepmother Camilla and his brother Prince William.
Referring to Camilla as a villain, he accused her of leaking information to the media.
Furthermore, he detailed a physical altercation with William that occurred in 2019.
Royal expert Valentine Lowe highlighted that Harry and Meghan have made numerous disparaging remarks about William, Camilla, and even Harry’s own father, making any potential reconciliation seem highly unlikely, as disclosed by The Sun.
Lowe emphasized that Prince Charles was fully supportive of Harry’s stance, with no dissenting voices within the royal family.
Despite hopes for a family reunion following Harry’s urgent return to the UK upon learning of his father’s illness, convincing William to reconcile may prove to be a formidable challenge, as per reports from the Daily Express.
While Harry reportedly suggested temporarily assuming royal duties if required, Buckingham Palace promptly dismissed the proposal, making the prospect of Harry representing the monarchy in the UK appear exceedingly remote.
Vanity Fair’s Katie Nicholl quoted a source who indicated that in the event the monarch is unable to fulfill public engagements in the coming months, a well-prepared contingency plan is already in place, excluding any involvement from Prince Harry.
The source further revealed the strained relationship between Harry and William, noting that it would be unrealistic for William to consider Harry as a suitable representative for the royal family.
In instances where the monarch is unable to carry out official duties, special advisers known as councillors of state step in.
This group comprises the monarch’s wife and the next four eligible adults in line for the throne.
Traditionally, Prince Andrew, Princess Beatrice, and Harry would be part of this group, but recent regulatory changes have expanded the pool to include Princess Anne and Prince Edward.
In light of these developments, the notion of Prince Harry playing a role in official royal functions seems increasingly remote.
