Sarah Bize, the former daughter-in-law of Queen Camilla, recently shared a heartwarming story that sheds light on King Charles’ unconventional yet affectionate style of raising his step-grandchildren.
Despite her divorce from Tom, Sarah still holds the British Royal Family in high regard and had nothing but praise for the monarch’s thoughtful gesture towards her daughter Lola’s birthday.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Sarah recounted how, just before Lola’s special day, she received an email from His Majesty’s Secretary inquiring about Lola’s desired birthday gift.
The King wanted to ensure that Lola would receive something she truly desired, a gesture that struck Sarah as both formal and reminiscent of a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale.
She admitted, “I remember saying, ‘I’m never going to get used to this.'”
Although Sarah is no longer connected to the royals through marriage, her children, Lola and Freddie, maintain a close relationship with their step-grandparents, the King and Queen.
Sarah admitted that it took some time to adjust to Camilla’s new role as Queen but emphasized the refreshing indifference her children have towards the situation.
She said, “It will be challenging for us to handle.
It probably helps that our children are at an age where they simply don’t care.
That’s refreshing, and the irreverence aids in maintaining perspective.”
According to Sarah, Camilla’s son Tom, Lola and Freddie’s father, has also noticed a significant improvement in public opinion regarding his mother over the past few years.
Sarah praised Camilla’s unwavering commitment to being an exceptional grandmother, stating, “She’s a really good grandmother, she’s very hands-on, and she’s never been anything but nice to me.”
Despite any personal differences between Tom and Sarah, they both agree that what truly matters is Camilla’s long-term relationship with her grandchildren.
Sarah and Tom tied the knot on September 10, 2005, after dating for five years.
Their children, Lola and Freddie, were born in 2007 and 2010, respectively.
Freddie even had the honor of being one of his grandmother Camilla’s pages at the coronation, solidifying their special bond.
Although Sarah and Tom separated in 2018 and officially divorced in 2022, they have remained amicable throughout the process.
In addition to Lola and Freddie, Camilla also has three other grandchildren through her daughter Laura Lopes and her husband Harry.
Eliza, born in 2008, and twins Gus and Louis, born in 2009, complete Camilla’s loving and growing family.
King Charles’ medieval approach to step-grandparenting, as revealed by Sarah Bize, showcases a unique blend of formality and genuine care.
Despite any challenges that may arise, it is evident that the King and Queen prioritize their relationships with their grandchildren above all else.
