Despite their separation, Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew have managed to maintain a close bond over the years.
In fact, Fergie even has her own room at Andrew’s residence, the Royal Lodge, fueling rumors of a potential reconciliation.
Despite Andrew’s recent royal scandals, Fergie has consistently stood by his side, emphasizing that he is a good man.
The paths of Fergie and Andrew first crossed during their childhood, as they moved in the same aristocratic circles.
However, it was at the prestigious Royal Ascot event in 1985 that they were introduced as adults.
Princess Diana, who was a close friend of Fergie and Andrew’s sister-in-law, believed that the two would hit it off and extended an invitation for them to join her and Prince Charles at Highgrove.
During Andrew’s absence at sea, Fergie, Charles, and Diana even went on skiing trips together.
After dating for nine months, the couple got engaged on Prince Andrew’s 26th birthday in February 1986.
The official announcement of their engagement came on March 19.
In her book, “Sarah Duchess of York, My Story,” published in 1996, Fergie compared Diana to a little sister and revealed that they supported each other through the challenges of being outsiders in the royal family.
Their grand wedding took place on July 23, 1986, at Westminster Abbey, just five years after Charles and Diana’s own lavish ceremony.
