King Charles has extended a royal offer to the Marquess of Chomondley, granting him a significant new role alongside his wife, Rose Hanbury.
This opportunity marks a return to their esteemed status after the Marquess was replaced as Lord Great Chamberlain last year.
Known formally as David Rock Savage, the Marquess will now fulfill the distinguished position of the King’s Lord-in-Waiting.
This development has been warmly welcomed by their close friends, Prince William and Kate, the Princess of Wales.
In addition to his new responsibilities, the Marquess, who also boasts a background in filmmaking, will be entrusted with attending crucial state affairs and royal gatherings.
He is tasked with representing his majesty at official functions whenever the need arises.
The couple resides at Houghton Hall in Norfolk, nestled near Anmer in the picturesque East Anglian countryside, encompassed by sprawling parklands spanning a thousand acres.
Their union in 2009 brought together the Marquess, who is notably 23 years senior to his wife, and Rose, a former model.
Together, they are blessed with three children – twin sons named Alexander and Oliver, and their daughter Iris.
Previously fulfilling the role of Lord Great Chamberlain, the Marquess was required to ceremoniously walk backward before the monarch during the state opening of parliament.
However, following the passing of Queen Elizabeth in September, he had to relinquish this position, as per the tradition dictating its transfer to another aristocratic lineage upon the monarch’s demise.
The 7th Lord Carrington succeeded him, hailing from a family with a notable political background; his late father served as the Foreign Secretary under Margaret Thatcher.
The Marquess, holding the title of the 7th within his lineage, divides his time between Norfolk and Cheshire, where the family has resided at Tromondley since the year 1200.
His late mother, the Dowager Marquioness Lavinia, had called Tromondley Castle her home until her passing in November 2015.
Renowned for their amicable relations with the royal family, the Marquess and Marquionesses are frequently spotted at various royal engagements, including the recent service of thanksgiving for Prince Philip in 2022.
Moreover, a notable royal connection exists through the Marquioness, whose grandmother, Lady Rose Lambert, served as a bridesmaid at Queen Elizabeth’s wedding in 1947.
Establishing a deep bond with Kate, she initially connected through shared philanthropic endeavors at the East Anglian Children’s Hospital.
