A potential new royal title may be in store for Princess Charlotte.
Keeping up with the changes in the royal family can be quite a task, but it seems that due to a kind act by King Charles, Prince Edward is now referred to as the Duke of Edinburgh.
However, unlike other royal titles, this one won’t be passed down to his son James.
People magazine reports that Princess Charlotte might eventually be granted this honorific as a result of a request made by the late Prince Philip.
Back in 1999, Buckingham Palace released information stating that Prince Philip had requested that his youngest son, Prince Edward, be given the title of Duke of Edinburgh.
Today, on Edward’s 59th birthday, King Charles has made this request official.
As a result, James, Edward’s son, has become the new Earl of Wessex, and Sophie, Edward’s wife, is now the Duchess of Edinburgh.
Previously, James was known as Viscount Severn.
Buckingham Palace specifically stated that Prince Edward would hold the title for his lifetime.
This means that James will not inherit the title upon his father’s passing.
In such a scenario, if Prince William ascends to the throne, the position might be bestowed upon Princess Charlotte or Prince Louis, his younger children.
This aligns with King Charles’ rumored desire for a leaner and more modern monarchy.
Despite having the option to do so, Edward and Sophie decided against using the titles Prince and Princess for their children.
The Times of London quoted Sophie explaining their decision, saying, “We try to bring them up with the notion they are very likely to have to work for a living.”
She went on to mention that they have the titles but are unlikely to use them until they turn 18.
Buckingham Palace made the choice to reserve the titles for Prince Edward and Sophie on their wedding day.
While the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, and the Prince of Wales had agreed that Prince Edward should be bestowed the dukedom of Edinburgh in due order, it was only when King Charles succeeded Prince Philip as monarch in 2021 that the title was officially given to his younger brother.
The Royal Family’s website has now been updated to reflect the names Prince Archie of Sussex and Princess Lilibet of Sussex for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s children.
In other news, Meghan Markle is set to relaunch her lifestyle blog, The Tig, after shutting it down in 2017 upon getting engaged to Prince Harry.
The Duchess of Sussex has received preliminary approval to revive the website, which had been inactive for five years.
However, not everyone is thrilled about this decision.
A lifestyle columnist has criticized the move, stating that no one wants Meghan’s advice.
Insiders have suggested that The Tig’s relaunch could potentially compete with Gwyneth Paltrow’s wellness and lifestyle brand, Goop, which is valued at £200 million.
Like Goop, the revamped blog will offer tips on various topics such as food, travel, fashion, the arts, design, conscious living, and wellness.
The website is expected to go live next week and was originally founded in 2014 when Meghan Markle was still acting in the legal drama Suits.
Meghan explained that the name “The Tig” was inspired by her favorite Tuscan wine, Tignanello.
She described the moment she first tasted it as an “aha moment,” which she referred to as a “Tig moment.”
However, columnist Celia Walden expressed skepticism, noting the lack of such moments since then.
She remarked that Meghan wants to be a lifestyle guru, but no one is interested in her advice.
It seems that royal life did not quite work out for Markle.
