Former Connecticut Senator and Vice Presidential nominee, Joe Lieberman, has passed away at the age of 82 after a tragic fall in his residence.
Lieberman gained national recognition as Al Gore’s running mate in the 2000 election, marking a significant milestone as the first Jewish candidate on a major party ticket at the national level.
Despite securing a majority of votes alongside Gore, the Electoral College outcome remained inconclusive.
The contentious recount in Florida ultimately led to the Supreme Court intervening and halting the recount, thereby granting the state’s delegates and the presidency to George W. Bush and d–k Cheney.
Lieberman’s legacy is being celebrated for his unwavering independence while serving on Capitol Hill.
