Country music star Luke Bryan has expressed his disapproval of Meghan Markle’s rumored attempt to replace Katy Perry on the upcoming season of American Idol.
While Luke has enjoyed working alongside Katy as a co-star on the popular singing competition, he was not entirely surprised by her decision to step away from the show after the current 22nd season concludes.
Katy Perry, along with Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and host Ryan Seacrest, joined American Idol in 2018 for its 16th season revamp.
Earlier this year, Katy announced on Jimmy Kimmel Live that she would be departing the show to focus on her pop music career and release new music.
She shared her affection for American Idol but expressed the need to follow her own path creatively.
In a recent interview with Taste of the Country, Luke Bryan disclosed that he had heard speculation about Katy’s departure before she made it public.
He described her decision as not entirely unexpected, suggesting that she may have impulsively announced her exit during the talk show appearance.
Reflecting on their six years of collaboration, Luke praised Katy for their strong friendship and successful working relationship.
Regarding his own future on American Idol, Luke explained the annual negotiation process for his participation on the show.
He clarified that each season is a year-long commitment without a long-term contract, allowing flexibility for decisions about returning each year.
The current season 22 of American Idol is set to conclude on Sunday, May 19th, airing on ABC on Sundays and Mondays at 8pm.
Speculation has arisen about Meghan Markle potentially joining American Idol as a judge for season 23.
However, sources suggest that her lack of music background and expertise may hinder her chances of securing the role.
There are concerns about her motives for seeking such a high-profile position, with suggestions that she may be aiming to enhance her fame through association with the show.
The rumored tension between Meghan and fellow judges like Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie is attributed to her alleged diva-like behavior, which could pose challenges for collaboration.
Lionel Richie’s close ties with King Charles are hinted to influence the dynamics within the judging panel, potentially affecting those who align themselves unfavorably with Meghan.
ABC has yet to announce who will replace Katy Perry as a judge on the show.
Reports indicate that singers Jennifer Lopez and Taylor Swift are being considered for the vacant judging position.
Taylor Swift, whose tour is expected to conclude in late 2024, could potentially join American Idol for season 23.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez, a familiar face on the show, has previously served as a judge on multiple seasons.
Former Idol winner Jordin Sparks has also expressed interest in taking on the role left by Katy Perry.
