In a surprising turn of events, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been instructed to vacate their official residence in the UK, Frogmore Cottage.
This news comes after concerns were raised about the safety of the property.
However, despite losing their home, the royal couple will still have a secure place to stay while visiting Britain.
According to a spokesperson for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the order to leave Frogmore Cottage was given by King Charles in response to the release of Prince Harry’s book, Spare.
Omid Scobie, in an unofficial biography of the couple, stated that taking away their police-protected Windsor home would leave them without a suitable space for their security needs when visiting.
However, royal historian Marlene Kenneg disagrees with this view.
She believes that Meghan, Harry, and their children could find refuge in other royal residences while visiting the UK.
Kenneg points out that there are plenty of rooms available at Windsor Castle where the couple could stay if they choose to come to the UK.
Kenneg also clarifies that the property is owned by the Crown Estate, not by the King or Meghan and Harry themselves.
This means that Harry’s lease was with the Crown Estates, just like other properties in Windsor.
In May 2022, it was reported that the Duke had extended his lease on the Windsor property, which is believed to be a 12-month rolling deal.
If this is true, the lease will expire within weeks.
Frogmore Cottage holds significant sentimental value for the Duke and Duchess.
They lived there for most of 2019, and it was the first home of their son, Archie Harrison, who was born in May of that year.
Although they relocated to California in mid-March 2020, they kept Frogmore Cottage as their permanent home in England and used it as their base during their visits in 2021-2022.
The loss of Frogmore Cottage also means that the Sussexes will no longer receive automatic police protection and privacy when they travel to the UK.
This is because the cottage is located in the exclusive Home Park neighborhood.
While a representative for Meghan and Harry confirmed the news of them being asked to leave the house, it has been reported that the couple was shocked and appalled by this decision.
Sources suggest that at least two members of the royal family share their sentiments.
The Sun claims that the property may be needed for Prince Andrew, whose subsidy is allegedly being reduced as part of a review of royal expenses.
However, Andrew is said to be resisting the idea of moving into Frogmore Cottage.
In other royal news, Queen Camilla’s dazzling engagement ring has been the subject of much curiosity.
The Queen Consort, who has been married to King Charles for 18 years, received an emerald-cut diamond with baguettes on the side as her engagement ring.
This stunning piece of jewelry receives around 800 searches annually, according to Google Trends.
Dana Barrowman, the marketing manager of Jewellerybox, spoke about Queen Camilla’s engagement ring, highlighting its popularity and timeless design.
As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex face the prospect of leaving their beloved Frogmore Cottage, the future remains uncertain for the royal couple.
However, they can take solace in the fact that they will always have a place to stay while visiting the UK.
The question now is where their next royal residence will be and what lies ahead for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
