Meghan Markle found herself in the midst of a frenzy as she attended the Clooney-Albee Awards, where Daniel Craig fearlessly engaged in banter with her on the red carpet.
Hollywood’s most renowned couples made a grand entrance on Thursday at the New York Public Library for the second annual Albee Awards, hosted by George Clooney and Amal Clooney.
The glamorous soiree attracted a multitude of industry heavyweights, many of whom attended the event for a romantic date night.
Several celebrity couples graced the occasion, including Cindy Crawford and Rand Gerber, Daniel Craig and Rachel Weiss, Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, and more.
However, Meghan Markle was notably absent, presumably due to concerns that her presence might overshadow the event with her penchant for making everything about herself.
Amidst the star-studded affair, Amal Clooney, one half of the power couple hosting the event, humbly admitted that she did not perceive herself as part of a power couple.
Despite the label often associated with her and George, Amal confessed that she didn’t view their relationship in that way.
Nevertheless, the Clooneys served as a formidable draw for the Albee Awards, which are organized by the Clooney Foundation for Justice and honor courageous defenders of justice who face significant risks in their work.
Amal looked stunning in a white sequined gown that accentuated her statuesque figure, complete with a small train and a matching clutch.
On the other hand, George opted for his signature classic tuxedo, sporting a distinguished silver beard and salt-and-pepper hair.
The couple exuded elegance as they posed together against the event’s golden backdrop, mingling with other attendees, including Amal’s mother, Lebanese journalist Baria al-Mudin.
However, it was an unexpected moment at the event that caught the attention of the media.
While taking a photo of the Clooneys, Daniel Craig was asked about his experience traveling to the event in the New York area.
Craig responded casually, “Well, I live here,” and added humorously, “Luckily, I don’t have to leave my car to jump into a yellow taxi.”
This seemingly innocuous remark appeared to reference Meghan and Harry’s reported high-speed chase incident, where they had to exit their SUV and enter a taxi to evade pursuit.
Continuing the conversation, the reporter asked Craig for his thoughts on George and Amal Clooney as well as the event itself.
The James Bond actor responded with admiration, stating, “I respect the Clooneys.
They’re honest people.
All the attention is on their awards and no one else.”
This contrasted sharply with Meghan’s initial hopes of forming a friendship, which seemed to have worked when she and Harry were part of the British royal family.
However, it appears that the couple is unlikely to receive invitations to such events, as their presence could potentially shift the focus away from the charitable purpose of the occasion, with media attention likely centering on Meghan and Harry themselves.
The specter of Meghan taking the red carpet in an ill-fitting gown, delivering an emotionally charged speech, and presenting an award loomed large.
Moreover, the fear of the couple engaging in another chaotic and potentially life-threatening chase, as they had previously experienced, added to the organizers’ reservations.
