Prince William, also known as the Duke of Cornwall in local circles, indulged in a quintessential South West delight during his recent tour of the Isles of Scilly.
The Prince, who had already started his day with a refreshing swim, arrived at St Mary’s Harbour on St Mary’s, the largest of the Scilly Isles, after a boat journey from Tresco.
As he disembarked from the boat named the Pegasus, adorned with the Duke of Cornwall flag, a wave of excitement rippled through the crowd of onlookers gathered at the harbour to catch a glimpse of royalty.
Sporting a pair of chic sunglasses to shield his eyes from the Cornish sun, Prince William was dressed in a smart brown blazer, matching brogues, and his signature navy chino trousers as he gracefully made his way along the waterfront.
His infectious cheerfulness was evident as he interacted with the locals and visitors, expressing his delight at the glorious weather that bathed the Isles that day.
The Prince made a pit stop at the On the Quay cafe, where he couldn’t resist purchasing five traditional Cornish pasties, each priced at £5.50, for his family.
Served by seasonal workers Jolie Dearman and Zachariah Fox from North Devon, Prince William inquired about the popular items on the menu, to which he was promptly informed that the pasties were flying off the shelves.
Clearly enticed by the savory aroma wafting from the pastries, the Prince remarked, “They smell delicious.
Makes your mouth water.”
Engaging with tourists and well-wishers outside the cafe, Prince William expressed his regret at having to cut short his visit, revealing his plans to return home to Windsor that afternoon.
With a touch of humor, he shared, “My family are very upset I’m here without them.
The children will kill me if I don’t go home later.”
Despite the fleeting nature of his visit, the Prince’s warm interactions left a lasting impression on those he encountered.
Continuing his itinerary, Prince William paid a visit to St Mary’s Community Hospital, where he met with the dedicated staff and got insights into a new integrated health and social care facility in the pipeline.
Armed with a spade, the Prince ceremoniously broke ground to mark the commencement of the construction, signaling a significant step towards providing comprehensive health services to the local community.
As the day drew to a close, Prince William bid farewell to the Isles of Scilly, promising to cherish the memories of his brief but eventful visit.
