The Greek royal couple, Prince Nikolaos and Princess Tatiana, have officially announced the end of their 13-year marriage.
The news was revealed on April 19 through a statement posted on the royal family’s official website, available in both Greek and English languages.
After 14 years of being together, the couple has made the difficult decision to dissolve their marriage, expressing deep appreciation, respect, and enduring love for each other throughout the years.
In the statement, Prince Nikolaos and Princess Tatiana emphasized that despite their decision to part ways, they will continue to uphold values of respect and understanding, which will serve as the foundation of their future relationship characterized by profound and sincere friendship.
Greece holds a special place in their hearts, and they have affirmed their intention to remain active there, with the unwavering support of their families always by their side.
Acknowledging the public’s respect and discretion, the declaration was signed by the office of the former royal family of Greece, marking a significant moment in the couple’s personal lives.
The announcement comes following the couple’s recent attendance at a memorial service for King Constantine, Prince Nikolaos’ father, where they were joined by members of the British royal family.
The unexpected absence of the Prince of Wales at the service, attributed to the Princess of Wales’ undisclosed cancer diagnosis until March 2024, led to speculation and adjustments in the event’s lineup.
Originally scheduled to participate, the Prince of Wales cited personal reasons for his absence, causing a change in the program that also affected the attendance of other royal figures.
Despite the alterations, St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle welcomed notable members of both the Greek and British royal families, including Queen Camilla, Prince Andrew, Sarah the Duchess of York, Princess Beatrice, and others.
Notably, Prince Andrew, amidst ongoing controversies, received an invitation from the Greek royal family and attended the services as a representative of the British royal family.
The historic Cathedral of Aeos Nikolaos in Spetses, Greece, holds sentimental significance as the venue where Prince Nikolaos and Princess Tatiana exchanged vows in a lavish wedding ceremony in August 2010.
Their decision to part ways after over a decade of marriage marks a new chapter in their lives, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect, understanding, and enduring friendship as they navigate this transition.
