King Charles, visibly emotional, fought to hold back tears as he made his way back to Balmoral Palace following a private service held in memory of Queen Elizabeth.
Alongside Queen Camilla, the King attended a solemn ceremony at Clacey Parish Church to commemorate the anniversary of the late Queen’s passing.
Choosing to observe the day that marked both her death and his ascension to the throne, King Charles engaged in private prayers and moments of quiet reflection.
The scene captured the King, adorned in a striking red tartan kilt, and Queen Camilla, elegantly dressed in a blue day suit and jacket, returning to Balmoral Palace after a poignant 30-minute service followed by a brief stroll.
Camilla was seen clutching a lovely bouquet of flowers, adding a touch of grace to the somber occasion.
This morning’s proceedings held significant personal significance for King Charles, as he remembered his mother’s peaceful passing at Balmoral Castle on the same day a year ago, marking the end of her remarkable 70-year reign.
In the early hours, shortly before 10 am, the King and Queen departed from Balmoral to pay a brief visit to the Church of Scotland, accompanied by only a select few guests.
The autumn sun cast a warm glow as members of the public, including students from Classy Primary School, Balmoral Estate staff, and other members of the Royal Family, gathered to pay their respects.
Among those present were Lady Sarah Chateau, the late Queen’s niece and nephew, and the Earl of Snowdon, highlighting the close familial ties shared with the departed monarch.
Lady Sarah, along with her husband Daniel and children Samuel and Arthur, joined the Earl of Snowdon and his daughter Lady Margaret Armstrong-Jones in honoring the late Queen’s memory.
Former Dean of the Royal Rite of Scotland, Ian Torran, delivered a moving sermon during the service, which lasted around 30 minutes before the royal couple greeted well-wishers.
Following the church visit, King Charles and Queen Camilla returned to Balmoral Castle, where they spent the remainder of the day in reflection and remembrance.
Meanwhile, Prince William and Kate are set to visit St David’s Cathedral in Wales later today before proceeding to Pembrokeshire for a private ceremony.
Earlier in the day, they shared a heartfelt message on Twitter, paying tribute to the extraordinary life and legacy of Queen Elizabeth.
The message included a touching family portrait featuring the late Queen surrounded by her great-grandchildren, including Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, as well as her youngest grandchildren.
