Child psychologist Dr. Catherine Wakeholm recently offered advice to the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, regarding how to address his children’s worries during his wife Kate Middleton’s hospitalization.
The royal family faced a challenging time as Kate underwent stomach surgery and remained hospitalized for two weeks.
Dr. Wakeholm emphasized the importance of not giving the children false hope about their mother’s return, as it could leave them feeling distressed at the prospect of her absence.
In situations where a parent, especially the primary caregiver, is hospitalized, young children are particularly vulnerable to feelings of distress and fear.
Dr. Wakeholm highlighted that children’s greatest fear in such circumstances is the possibility of a parent not returning home, complications arising during medical procedures, or the worst-case scenario of losing a parent.
Additionally, children may also harbor concerns about the well-being of their other parent during this challenging period.
Dr. Wakeholm noted that it is natural for children to seek information and clarity from Prince William regarding their mother’s health status.
