After stepping away from the royal family almost four years ago, a former palace advisor has disclosed the original intention of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Grant Harreld, in an interview with the New York Post, addressed speculations about the Duke of Sussex’s desire to reconnect with his British heritage.
The initial plan entailed the couple potentially purchasing a property in the UK and dividing their time between the two countries.
Consequently, it is likely that the Duchess of Sussex will also frequent the UK, indicating a significant portion of their year could be spent there.
Harreld emphasized that the Duchess’s past experiences of negative treatment, both from the public and within the royal family, would deter her from considering permanent residency in Britain.
Expressing his perspective, the ex-palace employee remarked, “I don’t envision the Duchess of Sussex opting for a permanent stay in the UK; I believe that was the primary reason for their relocation to the United States initially.”
Despite this, he acknowledged the Duke’s sentimental attachment to the UK, understanding his inclination to return.
Speaking on behalf of Spin Genie, Harreld noted the Duke’s fond memories of his upbringing and life in the region.
Considering the Duke’s marriage to an American and his familial ties in the United States, any potential return to the UK would necessitate a balanced approach, as highlighted by Harreld.
The complex dynamics of their dual citizenship and family commitments would undoubtedly influence their decision-making process.
