Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is facing accusations of exaggeration on her recently launched podcast, Archetypes.
In the first episode, she shared with her friend Serena Williams about an incident that occurred during a royal tour in South Africa.
However, others who were present during the trip have come forward with different recollections of the event.
While Meghan claimed that a fire broke out in Archie’s nursery, witnesses do not recall such a dramatic incident.
Instead, they remember a smoking heater in the room that was promptly unplugged and dealt with.
Joining us now is Sunrise Royal editor, Rob Johnson, to shed light on this controversy.
Rob, this news made headlines worldwide yesterday.
Can you explain why Meghan would exaggerate the incident?
“Well, she has a lucrative deal with Spotify, and this podcast is part of that deal.
I must say, it’s quite disheartening to see her resort to such tactics for publicity.
I was on that trip, and many others were as well.
However, none of the newspapers or agencies reported anything about fire engines being called to the residence.
The Foreign Office has also stated that they have strict safety procedures in place for the residences where the British Embassy accommodates the royal entourage.
So, it seems there is Meghan’s version of the truth and the actual truth.
There might have been some sort of incident, but it certainly wasn’t a fire breaking out.
I also find it hard to believe that three or four royal aides would allow such false claims to be made, especially when it involves the safety of a baby.
The baby wasn’t even in the room; they were with the nanny.
The smoking heater that wasn’t plugged in adds a different perspective to the story.”
Indeed, Meghan also portrayed herself as being forced to face the world after her baby’s near-death experience.
What are your thoughts on that?
“Well, if there had been a fire and a genuine incident, there is no way she would have been expected to leave the room or attend any engagement.
She was accompanied by Harry on the trip, and there were three royal aides with her as well.
However, none of them are speaking out, possibly because they fear a confrontation with Meghan over the facts.
They don’t want to defend their positions publicly.
But it’s hard to believe that anyone would ask the Duchess of Sussex to go out and face the world while a residence is still smoldering behind her.
It just doesn’t seem plausible.”
It appears that Meghan often portrays others in a negative light.
What impact does this have on her reputation?
“Yes, it seems she tends to paint others in a negative light quite frequently.
While there may be some truth to her claims, embellishing the story doesn’t help her reputation at all.
It only raises questions about her credibility and motives.
It’s important to present the facts accurately without adding unnecessary drama.”
Thank you, Rob, for providing us with the latest updates on this matter.
