An insider has revealed that the ongoing hostility between the Duke of Sussex and the Prince of Wales has escalated to a point where their bond is beyond repair.
The Duke of Sussex, along with his wife, the Duchess of Sussex, made the decision to step back from their roles within the royal family in 2020, subsequently relocating to the United States.
Since their departure, the couple has not shied away from openly criticizing key figures within the royal establishment through various media channels.
During a candid interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, both the Duke and Duchess expressed their discontent with certain aspects of royal life.
Their critical stance continued with the release of a Netflix documentary titled “The Sussexes” the following year, where the Duchess humorously mentioned the protocol of curtsying to Queen Elizabeth II.
The Duke of Sussex further stirred controversy with the publication of his autobiography “Spare” in January 2023, featuring scathing remarks directed towards Camilla, the Prince of Wales, and Princess Catherine, who is married to his brother.
The publication of “Spare” marked a new low in the Duke of Sussex’s relationships with his family, particularly due to the disparaging comments made about the spouses of the Prince of Wales and the King.
Subsequently, the King took the drastic decision to evict the Duke from Frogmore Cottage following the memoir’s release.
Apart from a brief encounter at a coronation event in May 2023, communication between the Prince of Wales and the Duke has been notably sparse over the past 18 months.
According to sources cited by the Mail, the trust that once underpinned the relationship between the Duke and the Prince has been irreparably shattered, regardless of any future developments.
Even if there were attempts at a managed reconciliation, it is believed that any resulting rapport would remain superficial at best.
Despite two visits to the United Kingdom in 2024, the Duke failed to meet with the Prince of Wales on either occasion.
In February 2024, Buckingham Palace disclosed the King’s cancer diagnosis, prompting the Duke of Sussex to make his first official visit in response.
