The Prince and Princess of Wales, Catherine and William, are expected to relocate from their current residence in Adelaide Cottage to the grandeur of Windsor Castle in the future.
As the largest and oldest occupied castle in the world, Windsor Castle holds a rich history, with 40 monarchs having resided within its walls since its construction in the 11th century.
While Queen Elizabeth spent her final years in Windsor Castle, it is anticipated that King Charles will not spend as much time there once he ascends the throne.
The exact timing of the Wales family’s move to Windsor Castle remains unknown, but for now, they are reportedly enjoying their time in Windsor.
According to a friend who spoke to People magazine, the family appreciates the freedom their current location provides, allowing their children to ride their bikes and explore the estate.
They are also eagerly looking forward to meeting the local community, which they describe as a close-knit and friendly group.
Interestingly, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had initially desired to live in Windsor Castle.
However, Queen Elizabeth offered them Frogmore Cottage and Windsor Great Park instead, as revealed by Vanity Fair Royal Editor Katie Nicholl.
This alternative arrangement was not the suite of apartments at Windsor Castle that the Sussexes had hoped for.
Nevertheless, Nicholl emphasized the significance of the Queen’s gesture, highlighting that she willingly sacrificed her privacy by granting them Frogmore Cottage.
The proximity of the Queen’s entrance to the cottage allows her to maintain a sense of connection to the property, despite relinquishing her solitude and privacy.
It was indeed a magnanimous act on her part, as Nicholl acknowledged, adding that the Queen expressed her hope that the Sussexes would respect her boundaries.
Royal author Hugo Vickers weighed in on why the late Queen Elizabeth denied Prince Harry the opportunity to reside in Windsor Castle, despite their close relationship.
Vickers posited that the estate may not be suitable for a young family, given the availability of empty bedrooms and suites within the private apartments of Windsor Castle.
He suggested that alternative living quarters within the castle grounds, converted for other purposes, might have been more appropriate for the Sussexes.
Reports suggest that Prince William continues to harbor some resentment towards Harry for his actions.
The Prince of Wales perceives Harry’s behavior as disrespectful towards the royal family.
Katie Nicholl further explained that when Harry stepped back from his royal duties, it had a profound impact on William, Catherine, and their young family.
It thrust them into the spotlight earlier than expected and placed them at the center of attention.
Nicholl emphasized that William had always anticipated supporting his brother, but it was not only Harry’s decision to leave and step down that affected him.
It was also the manner in which Harry executed his departure, which William perceived as a great disrespect towards the institution and their family.
Despite the existing rift between the brothers, Nicholl maintains that there is hope for reconciliation in the future.
Prince Charles intends to mend the family divide and work towards resolving their differences.
He recognizes that such discord within the heart of the royal family would cast a shadow over his reign.
