In a surprising turn of events, Thomas Markle has re-emerged as one of the most vocal critics of his daughter, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex.
Despite rarely speaking negatively about her in the past, Thomas’s recent comments have drawn attention to the strained relationship between father and daughter.
Interestingly, he has never met his son-in-law, Prince Harry, nor has he had the chance to bond with his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet.
Royal observers are left wondering if there’s any hope for reconciliation between the Sussexes and Thomas.
Biographer Tom Bower, who has been closely following the family’s saga, expressed his dismay over the way Thomas has been treated, claiming that his contributions to Meghan’s life have been largely overlooked.
During an interview with Matt Wilkinson from The Sun, Bower didn’t hold back his criticism.
“I feel deeply saddened by what Thomas is going through,” Bower stated.
He described Thomas as an honest man, dedicated to his family, and a wonderful parent.
According to him, Meghan owes her father a great deal, yet she has seemingly treated him poorly.
Their relationship has deteriorated to the point where years have passed without meaningful contact.
The circumstances surrounding their estrangement are troubling.
Thomas, now 79, finds himself living in a dilapidated cabin in New Mexico, while Meghan has chosen to distance herself from him.
Bower pointed out that this lack of communication is unfair, especially given that Thomas does not deserve the treatment he has received from his daughter.
Adding to the complexity of this situation is the fact that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have often voiced their grievances with the media during their royal tenure.
However, Bower claims they failed to support Thomas when he was under intense scrutiny from reporters.
He highlighted a particularly distressing moment when Thomas suffered a heart attack and was unable to attend Meghan’s wedding, yet no one from the royal family reached out to him.
“It’s tragic how the palace handled him,” Bower remarked.
