The Duke of Sussex finds himself in a precarious situation, grappling with the fallout from his strained relationship with the royal family.
Following his decision to speak out against prominent royals in his autobiography, “Spare,” he has lost what was once a safe haven—Frogmore Cottage.
In May 2018, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex exchanged vows at Windsor Castle, a moment that seemed to promise a bright future within the royal fold.
However, after a brief stint in Canada in 2020, they stepped back from their royal duties and relocated to the United States, seeking a new life away from the constraints of royal expectations.
Despite their move to Montecito, California, the Sussexes retained Frogmore Cottage as a base in the UK, a place they could return to during visits.
Yet, the dynamics shifted dramatically when King Charles requested that the couple vacate the property following the release of Harry’s tell-all memoir.
The book’s candid criticisms of family members, including Queen Camilla and the Prince and Princess of Wales, did not sit well with the monarchy.
Before the coronation in May 2023, the Duke had asked for permission to retain Frogmore Cottage until after the event.
However, in July 2023, the Sussexes officially left the residence, and since then, they have not secured another home in the UK.
This absence has left them in a bind, particularly as the Duchess has not set foot in the country since September 2022, missing even the king’s crowning ceremony.
With Frogmore Cottage now empty, the Duke has made several trips to London but has opted for hotel accommodations instead of staying at any royal estate.
An insider revealed to the Daily Beast that these changes have made it increasingly challenging for him to visit the UK regularly.
“He has been kicked out of the home that would have made it possible for him to come back on a regular basis,” the source stated, highlighting the stark reality of his current situation.
Reports from last month confirmed that the Sussexes were evicted from their cottage over a year ago, leaving the once cherished residence unoccupied.
