The recent release of the first official portraits from King Charles and Queen Camilla’s coronation has given us a glimpse into the new, slimmed-down monarchy.
The photographs showcase senior royals, including Princess Anne, Prince Edward, and the heir to the throne, Prince William, surrounding the newly crowned King and Queen.
In these portraits, Charles expresses his deepest gratitude for the public’s support throughout the historic weekend.
One detail that eagle-eyed royal fans were quick to notice was the outfit worn by the Princess of Wales as she stood alongside her husband and father-in-law.
In a touching tribute to Queen Elizabeth, Kate, 41, adorned herself with one of the late monarch’s necklaces, adding a complementary touch to her stunning ivory silk creep dress, created by her favorite designer Alexander McQueen.
The necklace in question is the George VI festoon necklace, which belonged to Queen Elizabeth and held a special place in her collection.
Made from 105 loose diamonds, this necklace was kept in reserve at Gerrard, stored in pouches marked C.4.Crown.
Its purpose was to extend a necklace or enhance a tiara if needed.
Queen Mary, the Queen’s grandmother, was known to have regularly utilized this service.
The resulting triple-strand necklace features rows of graduated stones suspended between two diamond triangles.
It was also the Queen’s preferred choice when she wanted to wear a necklace without a tiara.
Interestingly, during the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey on Saturday morning, many expected Kate to be wearing this necklace.
However, it appeared to be missing on the day.
While no reason was given for its absence, it is speculated that it may have been removed to prevent any damage to her Royal Victorian Order mantle, which was clasped together with a silver bullion.
In addition to the missing necklace, there is speculation that Kate may have worn two gowns for the coronation.
The new royal portraits reveal a gown with a different neckline compared to the stunning ivory silk creep dress by Alexander McQueen that she wore to the ceremony on Saturday.
Instead of a tiara, the royal mother-of-three opted for a matching headpiece by Jess Collette x Alexander McQueen.
This headpiece featured silver bullion, crystal, and silver thread work, with three-dimensional leaf embroidery.
It was a unique choice that added elegance to her overall look.
Furthermore, in a touching tribute to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, Kate wore a set of Diana’s pearl and diamond earrings for the occasion.
